Lauralyn, 33, lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She advocates for social causes when she is not selling event and digital marketing solutions to academic institutions and event organizers worldwide. Lauralyn is a participant in the Generation Equality Design Challenge organized by UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and World Design Organization. Lauralyn prefers to be addressed without a paternal surname as she does not want her identity to be associated with patriarchal traditions.

I am Generation Equality: Lauralyn, Filipino advocate for preventing violence against women and girls

"I am Generation Equality because…

What led me to become an advocate was a string of workplace and sexual harassment experiences that ended up with me making a police report. The last experience left me feeling broken, traumatized, institutionally betrayed, and eventually, angry.

At that time, I was fortunate enough to have a friend who was a part of the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality. She made sure I had the right resources to start my recovery. The knowledge she shared with me made me realize that there was not enough awareness and education for such a widespread problem.
Social media became a medium for me to reach as many people as possible to prevent someone from going through what I did or worse. I also use it to let survivors know that they are not alone -- either by sharing my stories or stories of others."

"Billions of people across the world stand on the right side of history every day. They speak up, take a stand, mobilize, and take big and small actions to advance women’s rights. This is Generation Equality."

Heart Evangelista is my chosen Filipino Advocate that I admire. ASIDE from being an actress, artist, and an international fashion icon, Heart Evangelista is also the spokesperson of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (Paws).

"Have a Heart for Aspins"

She once again speaks for the underdogs in PAWS’ newest campaign, “Have A Heart For Aspins.”

Heart Evangelista launch her newest “Have a Heart for Aspins” campaign. “This campaign is a call for people to recognize Aspins as beautiful, loving and loyal dogs so they should be given the same care, love and respect as pure breeds.”

“There is still a noticeable discrimination against Aspins,” she shares. “I’ve been with PAWS for 13 years now and here at the PAWS Animal Shelter, we have a lot of rescued Aspins who are victims of cruelty and neglect .You can see five of them in the first ad that came out this week. We want to highlight these beautiful Aspins so that they can find their forever homes with a family who will love them unconditionally.” she said.

This new campaign is part of Heart's ongoing efforts to advocate for the welfare of Aspins and other animals. Heart is so committed to animal welfare that she assisted PAWS in lobbying for an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) in 2013, which increased penalties for animal offenders. Heart is proud that her husband, Senator Chiz Escudero (but now separated), supports her cause. She goes on to say that their wedding godmother, the late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, was the one who changed the Animal Welfare Act to make pet abandonment a crime.
