We closed our eyes to really open our minds. 🧠 Today’s writing lesson was all about sensory details. From the smell of rain on concrete to the feeling of soft fur, we’re learning to paint pictures with our words. To help guide our thoughts, we used a senses chart—mapping out what we see, hear, touch, taste, and smell before putting pencil to paper. It’s amazing to watch their descriptions come to life! 📝👀👂✍️

Our founder had the privilege of attending the Nordic School Research Conference at Stockholm University, organized by the Department of Special Education. The focus on "Effective Interventions for Learning, Participation, and Positive Classroom Environments" was precisely what I needed as I transition into the Swedish educational system.

The conference provided invaluable insights into how our Nordic neighbors are tackling challenges in learning, participation, and classroom environments through rigorous research. Intervention strategies play an important role in our work which were highlights in the recently concluded conference.

A huge thank you to the brilliant researchers who shared their work:

Thomas Nordström (Linnaeus University) discussed evidence-based teaching and Nordic intervention research.

Oddny Judith Solheim (University of Stavanger) reflected on a decade of intervention research in Norway.

Mikko Aro (University of Jyväskylä) explored noncognitive factors in supporting students with learning disabilities.

Åsa Elwér (Linköping University) presented on mathematical word problems and targeted interventions for young learners.

Markus Talvio (University of Helsinki) shared research on teacher training in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).

Laura Ferrer Wreder (Stockholm University) and Tina M. Olsson (Jönköping University) presented a Swedish follow-up study on universal SEL interventions.

Børge Strømgren (Oslo Metropolitan University) introduced the PAX "Good Behavior Game" intervention study.

Mari-Ann Sørlie (NUBU) shared lessons from two decades of the PALS/SWPBIS model in Norway.

Mika Paananen (University of Jyväskylä) discussed the Check-In Check-Out (CICO) program in Finnish schools.

Nina Klang (Mälardalen University) presented a feasibility study of Check-In Check-Out in Swedish schools.

Leif Strömwall and Lotta Ryk (SBU) presented systematic reviews on SEL programmes for children's mental health.

We are excited to integrate these evidence-based approaches into our teaching practices. This is exactly the kind of learning that empowers us to move from "research to practice" and make a real difference for our students.

We can all agree that the Venn diagram is a go-to tool for comparing and contrasting just about anything from books in English class to complex ideas. But here is a fun fact, it wasn't invented by an English teacher! It was created by a mathematician named John Venn to help solve problems in mathematical logic.

Here is one of our third grader students from China who uses a venn diagram to compare and contrast fish and amphibians.

Starting from zero in a new language can feel overwhelming for both the student and the teacher. But some of the most rewarding moments happen right there at the beginning.

When someone doesn’t understand a word of English, we don’t start with vocabulary lists or grammar rules. We start with movement, play, and music.
