An outstanding aspect of this year's Mining Philippines 2023 International Conference and Exhibition held at the prestigious EDSA Shangri-La Manila was the significant involvement of Caraga State University (CSU), the only academic institution in Mindanao to partake in the international event, showcasing groundbreaking developments in mining technology.

Look: DOST PCIEERD showcases the technologies developed by the SuMMO Program at the Mining Philippines 2023 International Conference and Exhibition. The event which was held last September 19-20 at EDSA Shangri-La Manila, has brought together the foremost leaders, technical consultants, and investors from the Philippines' mining industry as well as resource-driven countries such as Australia, Canada, China, and Japan.

The SuMMO Team was led by the Caraga State University President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, and was joined by the SuMMO Program Leader, Dr. Alexander T. Demetillo, as well as SuMMO Project Leaders, Engr. Rudolph Joshua Candare and Dr. Jaymer Jayoma along with select project team members.

Also present at the event were personnel from the DOST-PCIEERD namely Ms. Katrina Landicho, Senior SRS for the Mining and Minerals Sector, and Mr. Mark Deniel Forbes of the PCIEERD Information Group.

This event provided an excellent platform for the SuMMO Program to showcase its developed technologies and engage in meaningful discussions with stakeholders within the mining industry. It served as an opportunity to demonstrate the program's contributions to the advancement of mining technologies and practices.

June 28, 2023 - The 13th Philippine Innovation Expo, themed “𝑪𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒖 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏” in conjunction with the DOST-PCIEERD 13th year anniversary celebration held at Centennial Hall, Manila Hotel, turned out to be a momentous event for Caraga State University.

The EPIC awards, a highlight of the DOST-PCIEERD anniversary, aim to recognize outstanding projects in terms of ex*****on, impact, and sustainability. CSU's CYANanobot and SMART Mines projects stood out among a pool of remarkable contenders, solidifying the university's position as a frontrunner in research and development within the country.

The EPIC awards not only celebrate the successful implementation and completion of CSU's projects but also highlight the institution's crucial role in driving technological progress and economic growth in the region. These awards serve as a testament to the collaborative efforts between Caraga State University (CSU) and the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).

During the event, Dr. Alexander T. Demetillo, who served as the project leader for both projects, attended to receive the prestigious award. Also, in attendance were Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, University President of Caraga State University, as well as Dr. Jaymer M. Jayoma and Engr. Rudolph Joshua U. Candare. Additionally, the project management team from DOST-PCIEERD, Ms. Katrina Landicho, Ms. Mary Grace Buenvides, and Ms. Franceska Angeline Carranza, joined the group to accept the well-deserved recognition.

As CSU continues to pave the way for groundbreaking research and development, the university's projects are poised to make a lasting impact on various sectors, including environmental conservation, mining, and beyond. With the EPIC awards firmly in their grasp, CSU sets a shining example for other institutions and reinforces its dedication to fostering innovation and excellence.
