Character First: Building Respect, Clean Spaces, and Unstoppable Learning at Alabat Island NHS

๐ŸŒŸ Morning Inspiration: Character First
Following todayโ€™s flag-raising ceremony, the AINHS community was reminded of a powerful truth shared by Alabat District OIC-PSDS Dr. Rebie A. Marciano:
"Mabuting tao, Masayang buhay."

She emphasized that true success at Alabat Island National High School goes beyond grades -- it is found in our character. Every challenge we face is part of learning. She further encouraged everyone to move through this week with hearts full of gratitude, deep respect for one another, and unwavering faith in God.

๐Ÿ“ข Principalโ€™s Corner: Directives from the School Head
As the weekโ€™s instructional block began, School Principal IV Mrs. Leilani A. Pregellana called on all students, teachers, and staff to uphold three non-negotiables for a stronger and better campus:

๐Ÿšซ Zero Tolerance for Bullying --She reminded the community that the school must remain a sanctuary where kindness and mutual respect are non-negotiable. Everyone is urged to look out for one another, without exception.

๐Ÿงน Pride in Our Spaces -- Mrs. Pregellana emphasized that cleanliness reflects discipline. She encouraged the AINHS family to keep classrooms and school grounds spotless, creating an environment where focus and growth can flourish.

๐Ÿ“š Unstoppable Learning -- She reaffirmed the schoolโ€™s commitment to learning continuity, stressing that nothing should hinder the growth of students. Every learner deserves quality education, and the school is determined to ensure this throughout the week.

Guided by the schoolโ€™s mantra, โ€œMatuto, Manguna, Maglingkod, Manguna,โ€ the school head urged the entire community to embody these values in both word and deed, making character, discipline, and learning the true hallmarks of success at Alabat Island National High School.

SOSA Highlights Progress, Innovation, and Excellence

Alabat Island National High Schools School Principal IV Leilani A. Pregellana delivered the 2026 State of the School Address (SOSA) centered on the school's mantra โ€œMatuto. Manguna. Maglingkod. Magbago.โ€ (Learn. Lead. Serve. Transform.), highlighting major accomplishments, challenges, and future directions for the institution.

Growing Learner Population

AINHS continues to serve a diverse student population with a total enrollment of 1,731 learners, composed of 928 Junior High School students, 762 Senior High School students, 27 Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners, and 14 learners under the Special Needs Education (SNED) program. The school also offers specialized programs such as the Rural Farm School (RFS), Special Science Curriculum, and the strengthened Senior High School curriculum.

Strengthening Learning Outcomes

Academic performance remained a priority during School Year 2025โ€“2026. The school reported a Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of 81.3% while implementing extensive literacy and numeracy interventions. A total of 112 learners received reading remediation, while 105 learners underwent numeracy remediation, demonstrating the school's commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind.

To address learning gaps, AINHS intensified its ARAL Program, Senior High School remediation activities, and other learner-support initiatives aimed at improving foundational skills.
Investing in Teacher Development

Recognizing that quality education begins with quality instruction, the school invested heavily in professional development. Teachers participated in division-initiated training programs on the implementation of the strengthened Senior High School curriculum, benchmarking activities, Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions, and Rural Farm School immersion programs. These initiatives equipped educators with updated pedagogical strategies and curriculum innovations.

Innovation Through Agriculture and Research

Among the notable innovations presented during the SOSA was the implementation of Sustainable Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (S3ALT) within the Senior High School program. This initiative strengthens the Rural Farm School curriculum and promotes sustainable agricultural practices among learners.
The school also continued to expand various programs, projects, and innovations designed to enrich learning experiences and strengthen community relevance.

Excellence in Academics, Research, and Leadership

AINHS students demonstrated outstanding performance in various academic and research competitions. The school participated in the PASIKLABAN Inter-School Quiz Bee and earned recognition as the Division's Best Infomercial in the OKD Implementation Program.
Research achievements were particularly noteworthy. Student researchers emerged as:
โ€ข I-CARE Division Research Presentation Champion
โ€ข 2nd Placer in the Quezon Provincial Research Forum
โ€ข Participant in the National Science and Engineering Fair
โ€ข Selected Medical Research Interns
โ€ข Champion in the Research on Robotics and Intelligence
Machine Category

These accomplishments reflect the school's growing culture of inquiry, innovation, and scientific excellence.

Achievements Beyond the Classroom

AINHS learners likewise excelled in leadership, scouting, technical-vocational education, arts, and sports.
Highlights include:
โ€ข Chief Girl Scout Award recipient
โ€ข Senior High School students earning National Certificates
โ€ข Participation in Battle of the Bands competitions
โ€ข Representation and victories in the Palarong Pambansa

These achievements underscore the school's commitment to holistic learner development.

Strong Partnerships and Student Services

The school highlighted the invaluable support of stakeholders through feeding programs, scholarship assistance, remediation initiatives, and various learner-support services. AINHS currently operates with 89 teaching personnel and 35 non-teaching staff, who collectively contribute to the delivery of quality educational services.

The School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) also played a significant role by providing financial assistance for school activities, supporting student organizations, purchasing new tables, and installing trumpet speakers to improve school communication systems.

Transparent Financial Management

In keeping with the principles of transparency and accountability, the SOSA presented the school's financial resources, including:
โ€ข โ‚ฑ5.301 million from Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE)
โ€ข โ‚ฑ467,136 from canteen operations
โ€ข โ‚ฑ185,917.50 from SPTA funds

The report also acknowledged donations and stakeholder contributions that helped improve school facilities and support educational programs.

Looking Ahead: Learning, Leadership, Service, and Transformation

As AINHS moves forward, the school remains guided by its four pillars: Matuto (Learn), Manguna (Lead), Maglingkod (Serve), and Magbago (Transform). The SOSA emphasized that meaningful change requires continuous learning, collaborative leadership, community service, and innovation.

With the support of stakeholders, educators, learners, and the wider community, AINHS aims to sustain its momentum and further strengthen educational excellence in the years ahead.

"Our journey reflects a simple yet powerful progression: Matuto. Manguna. Maglingkod. Magbago." said Pregellana, as a call for continued partnership in shaping the future of AINHS.

With a strong call for unity and continuous transformation, Alabat Island National High School (AINHS) highlighted its accomplishments, challenges, and future directions during the 2026 State of the School Address (SOSA) and General Parent-Teacher Assembly (GPTA) held at the school gymnasium, reaffirming its commitment to excellence under the guiding mantra: โ€œMatuto (Learn), Manguna (Lead), Maglingkod (Serve), at Magbago (Transform).โ€

The event gathered the Municipal Mayor, Vice Mayor, Municipal Councilors, school administrators, faculty members, parents, and other stakeholders in a shared commitment to transparency, accountability, and stronger schoolโ€“homeโ€“community partnerships.

In her address, School Principal IV Mrs. Leilani A. Pregellana presented a comprehensive report on the schoolโ€™s accomplishments, challenges, and future directions. Discussions covered enrollment trends, strengthened Senior High School curriculum and special programs, learnersโ€™ academic performance, remediation initiatives, innovations, support services, financial and resource management, SPTA accomplishments, facility improvement projects, and priority plans for School Year 2026โ€“2027. The report also acknowledged key institutional challenges, including high dropout rates, infrastructure development needs, teachersโ€™ professional development, limited project funding, student competence levels, and ongoing curriculum and policy shifts that continue to shape instructional delivery.

The entire report evolved around the schoolโ€™s guiding mantra: MATUTO (Learn), MANGUNA (Lead), MAGLINGKOD (Serve), and MAGBAGO (Transform).

Anchored on these four pillars, Mrs. Pregellana emphasized that AINHS continues to nurture learners through quality education, leadership development, community engagement, and transformative programs.

โ€œOur journey reflects a simple yet powerful progression: MATUTO (Learn), MANGUNA (Lead), MAGLINGKOD (Serve), and MAGBAGO (Transform). Together, these pillars define who we are and who we aspire to become as a learning institution committed to excellence and meaningful change,โ€ she said.

The principal also underscored the schoolโ€™s notable achievements in academics, sports, and cultural competitions, along with significant improvements in learning facilities and educational resources. She likewise recognized stakeholders, local organizations, and private individuals for their generous monetary and in-kind contributions that have greatly supported school programs and student welfare.

Meanwhile, SPTA President Mrs. Chona M. Lerum presented the associationโ€™s financial report, accomplishments, and donations received throughout the year. Administrative Officer IV Mr. Arvin Zeta discussed key school policies, including health and safety protocols, proper visitor and parent attire, gate pass procedures for school personnel, and measures to further strengthen parentโ€“teacher collaboration.

The program concluded with a raffle draw for parents as a gesture of appreciation for their unwavering support, made possible through the generosity of the Municipal Mayor, Vice Mayor, Municipal Councilors, the SPTA Federation, and the Personnel Club Officers.

More than a presentation of accomplishments, the 2026 SOSA served as a reaffirmation of AINHSโ€™ commitment to its guiding principlesโ€”to MATUTO (Learn), MANGUNA (Lead), MAGLINGKOD (Serve), and MAGBAGO (Transform)โ€”as the school continues its pursuit of excellence and meaningful change for every learner.
