Second-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BAComm) students from DMMMSU-SLUC, launched WISE: Tamang Pagboto Tungo sa Pagbabago, a civic education project held on May 10 in Barangay San Julian West.
Led by Jerry Vic Aballe, the teamโcomposed of Darielle Kaye Bautista, Mecha Ella Cestona, Cyrelle Mabutas, Joshua Montemayor, and Daniela Pasanaโorganized the initiative as part of their Community Development course under Dr. Ernesto C. Collo, Jr. The project reflects the programโs strong commitment to social responsibility and grassroots empowerment.
The event featured interactive activities and a voter's education session led by guest speaker Jan Prince Doctolero. A museum-style booth was also set up to creatively present key voting concepts and encourage informed decision-making among senior citizens ahead of the May 2025 national elections.
A total of 76 senior participants took part in the day of learning and engagement. To keep the atmosphere lively, a raffle was held, offering prizes such as half a cavan of rice, household items, and mugs with free pills.
Project WISE received official approval from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on May 8 and was made possible through the support of local barangay officials, SK leaders, and the Senior Citizensโ Association.
In line with Republic Act No. 10366, which promotes electoral access for senior citizens, WISE underscores the importance of inclusive democratic participationโespecially for sectors that are often underrepresented.
Through WISE, BAComm students did not only complete an academic requirement, but they sparked a movement toward an informed, inclusive, and meaningful participation in Philippine democracy.
