WPU, represented by University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao, Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Ria Sariego, and Information Officer Ms. Sheila Torreflores, joined fellow SUCs in advancing stronger internal control systems, deepening understanding of internal auditing principles, and reinforcing good governance practices, all aligned with CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda, particularly in vitalizing internal systems and ensuring efficient and effective public service.

The first leg of the fieldwork was conducted from April 13 to 27, 2026 in San Vicente, while the second leg followed from April 30 to May 8, 2026 in Inner Bay, Taytay. These activities focused on ecological surveys and collaborative research to strengthen marine resource governance in Palawan.

During the visit, RD Sepeda commended WPU’s pioneering initiatives in research, innovation, and community-driven development, recognizing how these efforts create meaningful impact not only for local communities but most especially for students who are being shaped as future innovators and changemakers.

He particularly highlighted the university’s “farm-to-table” holistic approach, an integrated model that addresses nutrition, agriculture, and broader multisectoral challenges, as a practice worth emulating.

Dr. Amabel S. Liao inked a Memorandum of Agreement together with HTU President Sr. Mary Ann Allag, O.P. for the establishment of a Research Ethics Committee. This was followed by her participation in the Southern Tagalog Islands Research and Development Consortium 14th Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Conference and Pitching Competition held at HTU Tiniguiban Campus.

She also attended the meeting of the Committee on Higher Technical and Special Education chaired by Hon. Winston Arzaga.

In the afternoon, Dr. Liao welcomed DOST Regional Director Dr. Bernardo Sepeda to WPU Main Campus Aborlan and led the visit to WestPhil Farms, the WPU Food Processing Center, and the Metals Engineering Innovation Center, all showcasing projects funded by DOST that continue to strengthen innovation and community development.
