TSC Confirms FODE-Only Rule for Teaching Certificates

SIMBU Teachers College Principal Mr. James Khana Brul has announced new directives affecting final-year students, confirming that only those who upgraded their Grade 12 results through Flexible Open and Distance Education (FODE) will be eligible for teaching certification.

Addressing Year 3 students today, he said the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) will not issue teaching certificates to students who upgraded their marks through other centres, including Department of Open and Distance Learning (DODL) and similar pathways.

Mr Brul emphasized that all final-year students must have entered teachers college through FODE to qualify for certification upon graduation.

Grade 12 FODE students, he added, will receive their teaching certificates accordingly.

The directive, issued by the National Department of Education, aims to prevent future registration issues for graduates entering the teaching workforce.

This notice serves to inform you all that St. John Bosco Secondary School in Dagua will be offering Business in Office Administration NC1, a TVET course, in Term 2.

First week of Term 2 will be our enrollment and registration week. A non-refundable fee of K10 will be charged for the application forms.

We have started FODE lessons for Dagua. We have eight pioneer students. Six Grade 11 Full Correspondence and two Grade 10 Upgraders.

2025 Grades and Subjects to study

Full Correspondence Grade 9 and 10 FODE subjects consist of Strands/Unit books and workbooks or assignments. There are six (6) Strands/Unit books and six (6) Workbooks or Assignments.

Full Correspondence Grade 11 and 12 FODE courses consist of Modules and Course Module Assignments. There are six (6) Module Coursebooks or Assignments.

Grade 9 FODE and Grade 10 Upgrade subjects (6 in total)

The Grade 9 subjects are:
1. English
2. Mathematics
3. Science
4. Social Science
5. Personal Development
6. Business Studies

Grade 11 FODE and Grade 12 Upgrade subjects (6 in total). Only Humanities Stream will be taken up for Grade 11 FODE Full Correspondence. Grade 12 Science stream Upgrade students can see the FODE coordinator to assist with Science teachers.
