Funding and Support for Willard Phonics School
Greetings and belated New Year to all our friends, missionary friends and synod abroad and within Papua New Guinea.
A brief overview of Willard Phonics school, was established in 2018 at Irelya Village (Dekem) to cater for kids at the age of 3-5 years old as a preschool in an old shed turned to classroom that was then build by our pioneer missionary Dr.Willard Bursh,David Burner and other who first settle in Irelya to establish the Lutheran Headquarter. Prior to that the school was named after Dr. Willard Bursh in memory of.
On its first year it enrolled 15 children fee free as a daycare in its newly established school with only one teacher, Shirley Peter Pone the founder and teacher. She was a trained teacher thereafter.
The school drew attention because of its syllables and Phonics and most importantly the Word of God. And seeing the quality in this newly established school the education department came onboard with another two elementary trained teachers to cater for this kids.
On its second schooling year it then increased the enrollment to 25 students. Still education given was fee free however, some parents willingly with appreciation payed K50 as the academic year fee whilst rest still on fee free and the academic year did ended successfully.
However, now students are learning inside this old converted shed classroom and will be continuing in this same shed this year too. Seeing the interest of some parents the school pioneer mistress Shirley Pone erected a craft made classroom to cater for more students but unfortunately was handicapped financially to complete.
The school in its infancy thus have the potential to breed disaplained kids to primary schools and to take to lure kids outside of Irelya village as it is praised well by some of its community leaders who have seen the excellency through their own kids and gannies.
Therefore, now Willard Phonics School with its three teacher are looking for any missionary friends abroad with keen memories of Irelya and its mission and Lutherans to fund this self initiated project to fully erect its classroom with a cheerful and praying heart to enhance its capacity.
