THANKYOU DIGICEL FOUNDATION FOR BUSU SECONDARY SCHOOL BRAND NEW 4-IN-1 CLASSROOM

It gives me great pleasure to officiate at the opening of the new 4-in-1 Double Classroom of Busu Secondary School here in Lae on Monday 13th March 2023.

The state of the art classroom is funded by the Digicel Foundation to a tune of K1.6million. Thankyou very much to the management and staff of Digicel PNG and the Digicel Foundation for delivering this vital infrastructure project towards the teaching and learning of our children.

Digicel Foundation selecting Busu Secondary School out of 426 high and secondary schools throughout PNG reflects the good leadership in it's administration and also the high academic performance the school has achieved since 2016 as one of the top five schools in the country.

The students and staff of Busu Secondary School have portrayed good qualities by ensuring that they are well disciplined, hardworking, possess positive attitudes that have reflected in good academic achievements over the years.

I would like to commend the hardworking Busu Secondary School Principal Mr George Noble and his board and administration for maintaining strong decisive leadership in managing the school's affairs.

The Lae City Authority under my chairmanship will be supporting you going forward. We have allocated K2.5 million for a brand new administration building. We will continue to support in investing in quality education for our children by partnering with the board and administration of Busu Secondary School.

We are partnering with our high and secondary schools in Lae in delivering vital school infrastructure projects and we will be working in close consultation with the good board, administration and parents of these schools.

The Marape PANGU-led government has subsidized school fees for all schools throughout the country under the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) policy and it is my responsibility as your MP to provide funding support to build good infrastructure that will accommodate the influx of students that we send to school.

Its not just about free education, its about providing quality education for our children in Lae.

We have partnered with Lae Secondary School administration, board and stakeholders in delivering classrooms, a multi purpose hall and housing for staff since 2017 and we will continue to do so as long as we have a transparent board and administration.

We are working on upgrading Bugandi Secondary School in close consultation with the school administration and board. Perimeter fencing for Bugandi already done, 8 in 1 classroom for Grade 12s, ablution facilities and other major infrastructure upgrades.

Malahang Technical Secondary School has received a brand new K1.2million trade classroom with plans to build more infrastructure.

Bumayong Secondary School we are partnering them to also improve it's depilating infrastructures and I am committed in ensuring we bring back some lost pride into one of Lae's pioneer schools.

We need conducive, spacious and durable infrastructures that can deliver quality education for our children.

The LCA has also bought brand new 26-seater buses for each of our high and secondary schools in Lae including Immanuel Lutheran High School and Lae School of Nursing and St Josephs Technical School will be getting a brand new school truck. That would also enable a safe and clean mode of transportation for our students when they go out for school excursions and trips as part of their learning.

We will also soon launch the new school bus program in Lae city to transport our children safely to and from schools.

We are also providing funding support to elementary and primary schools in the city. We are building and upgrading classrooms, teachers houses and also equiping our schools with learning materials and resources.

There are more than 30 primary schools in Lae and we will do our best to ensure each school gets it's infrastructure support.

We have delivered a brand new K1.2million 8in1 classroom for Huonville Primary School.

Our teachers also need better accomodations and so far we have delivered three brand new fully kitted teachers' houses for St Martin's Primary School, 4-Mile Primary School and Butibam Primary School.

We will also be looking at supporting our FODE institutions, Lae Polytechnic Institute and Balob Teachers College.

Once again, thankyou to Digicel Foundation for this vital infrastructure for Busu Secondary School.

We will continue to strive to improve on providing quality educational facilities for our children.
