The Kadagaya team formed in order to develop appropriate technologies for enabling alternative social systems. We are aware of the negative consequences of the current monetary system and modern lifestyle and want to investigate healthier ways of living. We define "technology" in the broadest sense, not just machines and software, but all tools and systems that provide efficient ways to improve li
fe. The concept most closely aligned with our ideals is that of a resource-based economy (RBE), and we use the general ideals of this system to direct our research. We are developing a research centre for appropriate technology based in Chanchamayo, Peru, where the campus is serving as a test-bed for evaluating the developed technologies. We focus on technologies that can contribute to self-sufficiency, reduce human labour, increase quality of life, and enhance the health of the biosphere. We promote holistically designed open-source technologies and all knowledge generated within Kadagaya is freely available. We are also highly interested in the science of social interactions, behaviour, and effective communication, especially in methods for designing physical environments that promote positive social interactions. The Kadagaya project is registered as a non-profit association under Peruvian law and are in the process of formalizing our status as a research centre. We are currently self-funded and have no compromises with any companies or institutions.
