Despite all the political controversy that surrounds the Founding Fathers nowadays, we still could not seriously contemplate any other name for our institution than Washington’s Language School. We chose it because George Washington was an original thinker and, more importantly, pursued more learning despite his circumstances. Considering this, we continue to proudly call this institution Washington’s Language School in the hope that you, too, will realize that your learning experience with us will depend on you, not the circumstances that surround you. Below are a few points that indicate the logistics of your classroom experience and the general method of learning.
1. In this course, classes will be held three times a week for a total of four months for the semester block. Each class will be fifty-five (55) minutes in length, will be done via Zoom, and will be focused on speech more than writing (though both will be included).
2. Our classes are oriented around student participation. In each class, the first fifteen (15) minutes will revolve around learning the grammar in question. Most of the time, however, will be spent verbally practicing with the instructor and other students the principles just taught.
3. Once a month, all students will have the opportunity to practice their speech in another language with a native of that language. This will be done to implement the principles learned in class, improve our pronunciation, and achieve a better appreciation for the culture into which we are immersing ourselves. It is our hope that you feel comfortable as you learn the language of your choice here in Washington’s Language School. We assured you that you will learn the material and that it is not as intimidating as you might think. Our objective is to provide you with a solid foundation in the language you study. Welcome! Sincerely,
Joseph Rodgers
