I am Ali Nemati, a Colorist and Certified Instructor in Color Correction, Color Grading, and DaVinci Resolve software. For the past eight years, I have been dedicated to teaching color correction, color grading, and DaVinci Resolve both in person and through private online classes . During this journey, I have had the honor of training hundreds of students, many of whom are now among the best in t

he industry. Before entering the world of image and color, I spent a decade as a professional web and application developer, specializing in UI/UX design. My passion for storytelling, color psychology, and audience engagement led me into the world of visual arts and cinema in 2012. In pursuit of deeper connections with viewers through the emotional power of color, I discovered DaVinci Resolve and immersed myself in mastering its tools and techniques. Over the years, one of my greatest passions has been creating unique color styles and LUTs for various colorists. My mission goes beyond teaching technical skills; I strive to deepen the understanding of color as a powerful visual language. Every lesson I deliver is shaped by years of hands-on experience in web, advertising, and visual storytelling with color at the heart of it all.

Color grading begins with correction, but it should never end there.

The first stage creates a reliable technical foundation by controlling exposure, neutralizing unwanted color casts and matching shots across the sequence.

Once continuity is established, the creative process begins. Contrast, color separation, saturation and tonal density are shaped to support the atmosphere of the scene and direct the viewer’s attention.

The goal is not to make every shot look impressive on its own. The goal is to make the entire sequence feel visually connected and emotionally intentional.

A strong color grade begins with a clearly defined workflow.

Before creating the look, each stage of the process should have a specific role. Color management establishes the technical foundation. Primary corrections balance exposure and color. Contrast and density shape the image, while secondary adjustments isolate and refine selected areas.

Keeping technical corrections, shot matching and creative operations separated makes the node structure easier to read, revise and reproduce across an entire sequence.

A structured workflow does not limit creativity. It creates a reliable foundation that allows creative decisions to remain controlled and consistent.

A reliable grade depends on the order in which decisions are made.

The signal should first be placed in a controlled working space. Primary corrections establish a consistent technical baseline before contrast, density and color relationships are shaped.

Secondary operations can then isolate skin tones, control specific hues and guide attention without disturbing the foundation of the image. The creative look comes later, followed by final output adjustments and quality control.

When each stage has a defined role, revisions become faster, node structures remain readable and the look can be reproduced consistently across an entire sequence.

Professional color grading is not only about what you adjust. It is also about when and where you make each adjustment.

A strong visual identity begins long before color grading.
Defining the color palette during preproduction helps every creative department work toward the same visual direction. Wardrobe, production design, lighting and locations can all be selected with the final image in mind.
This creates consistency across the frame and gives the grading process a clear foundation. Instead of trying to discover the visual language in postproduction, you can focus on refining and strengthening a look that was already designed with purpose.
A cinematic palette is not simply applied at the end. It is planned from the beginning.
