This morning Wen's Story Den visited Montessori to bring the story of Māui and The Fire to life through the use of puppets and props.

This interactive storytelling sparked a lot of excitement, imagination and laughter as ngā tamariki followed Maui's adventures.
Thank you for coming Wen!

📚🚌 Our Library Bus Visits! 🚌📚

Every second week, we are lucky to be able to welcome the Library Bus to Montessori. Our tamariki love browsing the shelves in the bus, choosing books that interest them, sparking so much conversation and excitement, which is always so wonderful to observe.

This connects beautifully with the Montessori philosophy, where children are encouraged to follow their interests, make purposeful choices and develop independence at their own pace. These visits encourage independence, decision-making, curiosity, communication and a genuine love of books and learning. 🌱

Our library bus visits also support Te Whāriki | Mana Reo – Communication, strengthening language, listening, vocabulary, storytelling and early literacy skills. They also provide opportunities for tamariki to connect with their wider community and develop a sense of belonging.

We love watching ngā tamariki proudly choose their books and bring them back into our classroom to enjoy and share with others. 📖✨

He tamariki te taonga – Children are precious treasures. 💛

During the holidays our teaching team had the privilege of hosting and attending a professional development session with Kathryn Berkett, one of New Zealand’s leading neuroscience educators. Kathryn is passionate about helping educators and families understand how the brain develops and how this knowledge can positively influence the way we support children’s learning, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and resilience.
It was an inspiring day that reinforced the importance of building strong, nurturing relationships, supporting emotional regulation and understanding that every brain develops at its own unique pace.
We are excited to bring our learning back into our centre and continue providing a caring, responsive environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported to reach their full potential.

If you are interested, you can find more of her work on her website www.engagetraining.co.nz

Kathryn and well known NZ'er Pio Terei have also created a podcast called “I've got questions” which is a great listen. (Found on listening platforms such as Spotify - link below)

Mānawatia a Matariki! ✨

Our tamariki enjoyed gathering around the Matariki fire to toast marshmallows and kūmara, sing Matariki waiata, and share stories about remembrance, harvesting, gratitude and new beginnings.

This meaningful experience reflects both Te Whāriki and our Montessori philosophy, fostering a sense of belonging, respect for nature, cultural understanding and appreciation for the changing seasons through real, shared traditions creating special moments of learning and connection. ❤️

Messy play provides tamariki with opportunities to explore, create, and learn through hands-on experiences. Through water play, painting, slime, and sensory exploration, children develop creativity, confidence, language, and problem-solving skills. In Montessori, hands-on learning allows children to discover and make sense of the world through their senses.
Learning is messy, meaningful, and fun! 😊

The Sandpaper Letters allow our tamariki to learn letter shapes and sounds in a meaningful, hands-on way. By using their senses to trace and hear each sound, children build a strong foundation for future reading and writing. ☺️
