We have a few spaces available in our Montessori Inspired class, known as the Tui room and even sometimes as Whaea Carol's class.

Whaea Carol is one of our very precious taonga here at Douglas Street. Generations of families have come through the Tui Room, where whaea Carol has created lasting memories for tamariki💕

While the spaces in this class are limited, they will be full of fun, curiosity and inspiration. Call in for a visit whanau.

Making time to read, not just to the tamariki but with them, creates many foundations. Acknowledging language, literacy, imagination, wonder and curiosity, anticipation of what next and so much more.

🐛📖 Introducing the 1000 Books Before School Programme, proudly sponsored by Whakatāne Rotary 📖🐛
This is an early literacy initiative designed to encourage parents, caregivers and whānau to share stories with tamariki from birth until they start school. Children aged 0-5 register at the library, receive a welcome pack with book reading record sheets where they count every book read (whether from the library, home books, books read at kōhanga, kindy or daycare).
Tamariki return their completed sheets, receive recognition and the next 100-book sheet. The programme concludes when the child reaches 1,000 books or starts school. Sign your child up below for this wonderful programme! ⭐

We know the time is coming, when we see our daffodils pop up in the garden 🥹.

Acknowledging daffodil day is a beautiful time. Wearing yellow brightens anyone's day.

Remembering our loved ones, those who are going through their journey and those who are supporting others, & everything matters. Kindness always goes a long way 😊

Kia orana whānau! 🇨🇰🌺

Whāea Jordan and her whānau are experiencing the bext learning about the Cook Islands. Whāea Jordan, Remi, Jai and even Sammi are in Rarotonga and taking in the Island life. Whāea Jordan sent us a message and some photos.

As it is Cook Islands Language Week here in New Zealand, we thought we would share some of our adventures from our family holiday in Rarotonga.

Wednesday, we arrived on Constitution Day, which is a special public holiday in the Cook Islands. It celebrates the day the Cook Islands became self-governing in free association with New Zealand in 1965. It is one of the country’s biggest celebrations, with cultural performances, music, dancing, and community events.

After settling in, we enjoyed a swim in the pool at our accommodation. At a lovely 26°C, it was much warmer than home!

Today we explored the beautiful lagoon, where we put on our snorkels and saw lots of colourful ika (fish) swimming around us. This afternoon we visited the famous Muri Night Market, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner and experienced some of the local food and atmosphere.

We’ve also been learning a few words and phrases in Cook Islands Māori:

It has been wonderful experiencing another culture, language, and way of life. We can’t wait to share more of our adventures with you all!

Our playground has been refreshed with exciting new upgrades at Busy Bees Douglas Street!

With an updated sandpit and a brand new bike track, our tamariki have even more opportunities to explore, create, and stay active.

Happy Friday whānau, we enjoyed having lots of tamariki back, now that the school holidays are finished.

We had some transition to school, and we know they will all do well. We will miss you Lily, Rumi, Zakania, Aiden, Manaia & Storm.

To all our Douglas Street whānau, we hope you enjoyed our Matariki celebration last night.

To see our tamariki bring all their whānau to share in their learning is amazing to see in action. It really does warm our hearts.

To our team, you guys never shy away from the hard work behind the scenes😬.To provide our tamariki with moments in time, is something only your time and effort can create.

Thank you, seems like a small token of appreciation, when the outcomes exceed our expectations.
