It felt a little bit like Christmas at Alicetown Playcentre last week as it was delivery day📦. We received a generous grant from the Lions Club of Lower Hutt - Host Inc & Charitable Trust which enabled us to purchase an incredible amount of consumables for our tamariki. We are all VERY excited about this amazing top up of session supplies and eager to try new things that have been purchased. Your support has made a world of difference in keeping our invitations to play rich, messy, and full of learning. The tamariki helped unpacking, stacking and posed with their biggest smile to say a big THANK YOU for your generosity.

Some of our centre whānau were very fortunate to attended a wānanga at Te Mangungu Marae in Naenae. We were welcomed onto the marae and started the day with a beautiful pōwhiri. It was a special energy seeing so many different playcentre's around the Wellington region supporting this amazing kaupapa learning more about Te Ao Māori. There was beautiful kōrero and a lot of excited tamariki running around. We split into groups to learn more about how to play a Ukelele, weave harakeke or pūrākau (story telling). We shared delicious kai, drank kawakawa tea and ate hangi for lunch. Throughout the day there was a strong feeling of "He waka eke noa. We are all in this together." Being raised in the UK, Indonesia and Germany all three of us felt very humbled by the aroha shown and the knowledge that was shared on the day. Thank you Playcentre Aotearoa for this amazing opportunity learning alongside our tamariki and extended Playcentre village🙏

Our Rāapa session today visited Ration Creek Orchard for some autumnal aporo picking 🍏 🍎
The tamariki loved it and chatted away about what they’d use the apples for - there were plans of apple pies, apple crumble, apple pancakes, waffles and apple muffins 🤤
We even spotted some sheep near the orchard and then our tuakana went to a Battle Hill for more exploring!
Our focus this term is Matariki and this trip tied in nicely with learning about Tupuārangi which is the star associated with food that comes from the sky. Our trips each term are very fun but in the background connect to important principles relating to early childhood education 💜💛
