Another warming meeting!
Last night, guests and members braved the cold to practice their public speaking, with two prepared speeches on Mentorship and Motivation, and plenty of hilarious table talks.
Thanks to our grammarian, who gave us the task of using three different languages in our speeches! With the theme of the evening being Family, we practiced our reo by using the word Whฤnau and were taught how to sign 'family' in New Zealand Sign Language. Check out the link below to practice it too!
Thanks for all that contributed - see you in two weeks, on Tuesday, 3rd June at 7:15 at the Reformed Church in Brooklyn. Guests and new members always welcome ๐

Wild weather in Wellington means testing Turbine Toastmaster's improv skills! After confirming all members were safe and dry, we took the meeting online, and whilst we had to dust off cameras and microphones, got through a huge kลrero, including three wonderful speeches and welcoming in three wonderful members!
Our table talks centred around memories and family, with members sharing their favorite teenage mishaps and their least favorite fashion over the years (stubbies and platform sandals, anyone?).
Thanks to all our members who made it this evening and looking forward to seeing you next time to those who couldn't! We are back in action on the 5th May, at the Reformed Church in Brooklyn at 7:15pm. We are always welcoming guests and members, so come along if you're interested, we'd love to see you!

Toastmaster Rules! Oops...I mean roles...
When you come along to Toastmasters, you might notice that members are all assigned different roles, from evaluator to grammarian. Trying on different pลtae or hats, is great preparation for all the different ways public speaking pops up in our daily lives.
On Tuesday night's meeting, Jayshree was our Host. This means she set the agenda for the evening, was responsible for keeping the meeting on track and introducing the theme of the evening - Love & Literacy! She brought in fun props and helped create a warm and welcoming environment.
We have a couple more meetings this year - come along on Tuesday 2nd Dec if you want to try on one of these roles ๐

Our October speech contests have wrapped up just in time for the wet and wild weather! ๐จ๐ฆ๐
Well done and congratulations to our wonderful contestants, judges and guests who participated in the Table Topics
and Humorous speech competition.
If there is one thing Toastmasters teaches you, it is how to think on the spot! We'll be back to regular meetings and practicing our table topic answers in a fortnight on the 4th of November.
In the meantime, please stay warm and dry inside, as it sounds like it is the perfect time to start working on your next speech...

Big smiles from our winners of last night's contests! Our International contest saw three great speeches, from the 3Bs of surviving History class in school, to being stronger than you think and the delights of summertime swiftly approaching.
Our Evaluation contestants were in for a challenge, as Karen from Island Bay Toastmasters gave us an engaging tale about her local childhood 'Beast,' and finding opportunities for improvement in this speech certainly flexed our brain muscles!
We are excited to do it all again in a fortnight - as we get together on the 21st for our Humorous and Table Topics contest. Thanks again to our wonderful judges and guest speakers - it was lovely to hear your kลrero ๐

The Turbine Talkers (Pub Quiz Edition!) have thrown their hat in the ring once more - coming an astonishing #7 out of 21 teams at our local pub, 1852.
As we were fuelled on by the delicious fish and chips, we achieved great heights in rounds such as Who Am I?, Music and Geography, but started to despair at the last two rounds - Sports & Games and Life on Campus.
If you are a recent graduate, or perhaps a cricket tragic and you just so happen to also want to workshop your public speaking, we would love you on our team!
We are back to our regularly scheduled programming next Tuesday, and will meet at 7:15 at the Reformed Church to do what we do best - talk!

Team Turbine Toasties takes to the Tuesday quiz!
Sometimes, when we have an extra Tuesday in a month, we can be known to try something different... this month we sent off a valiant team into the pub quiz wilderness and pitted them against seasoned quizzers with names such as C u next Tuesday, Quiztopia, and other nonsense...
Defeated, but not last, our team is poised for a rematch at the very next opportunity. In the meantime, we will see you Toasties....next Tuesday!๐

What is in Gayle's winter SOUP? Sleep, time Outside, getting Upside down at Yoga and Permission to ignore all of the above!
Speeches are whatever you make them at Toasmasters - whether they are filled with fun props, helping your audience figure out what makes a great communicator or painting a picture of how Pink Floyd influenced a band of brothers in Taranaki.
Pop in Tuesday, 5 August, 7:15 at the Reformed Church in Brooklyn for our next meeting - we would love to see you there as we support each other through all stages of our varied public speaking journeys!

Mid-winter Christmas was our theme for the night. Yes, we are half way through 2025 already.
Congratulations to Tushar for the best speech, MaLin for the best evaluation and Joy for the best table topic of the night.
