March For Our Lives - New Zealand

Share

On March 24, the March for Our Lives movement will take to the streets of four cities around New Zealand to stand with students in the U.S.

fighting for common sense gun reform to prevent gun violence in schools.

It has taken us quite a bit of time to gather our thoughts around what happened yesterday.

We can't begin to imagine the pain and fear that the victims went through, and now their families and friends must go through, as we continue to grieve this loss as a nation.

Such a large-scale shooting has never occurred on NZ soil. Yesterday was a first.

This means that the longstanding argument "guns aren't a problem in NZ" doesn't ring true anymore. They are. They always have been.

We will work as hard as we can to lobby a safer and more sensible approach to gun control, as well as for sustainable and achievable ways to eradicate ideologies of white supremacism and Islamophobia (as well as all other "phobias"), because this is not the Aotearoa we believe in.

This is not the Aotearoa we stand for.

Sending everyone love, please take care of yourself and your Muslim friends and whānau. ❤️

Here are the opening speeches presented by Golriz Ghahraman, Green Party MP and Julie Anne Genter MP at our Auckland event - two extremely passionate and empowering addresses, by two amazing women.

Hope you enjoy hearing their thoughts!
