The 12PPE classes have recently been on a couple of EOTC trips this term. These align with their 2.7 assessment to participate in risk management strategies and experience real life outdoor challenges that have risk attached to them.

The first trip was a kayak challenge down at Fergs on the waterfront. The boys had to overcome three different group challenges in the water. They had to use teamwork and communication skills while also managing risks in relation to the people, the environment, and the equipment used. Students were also tasked with checking if their life jackets fitted properly and that the kayaks where safe to use.

The next trip was a day off school to complete the Paekākāriki Escarpment Track. The intermediate tramp involved a total of 1200 stairs, two swing bridges and some narrow paths. Students worked well together to manage the risk of heights and the speed of the group, making sure the whole group stayed together while also appreciating the beautiful scenery. One of the main risks associated with this tramp was the need for drinking water, as there were no shops or water sources along the 10km track. The track was a fun, tiring and challenging day but they were fortunate to have the most amazing winter day with warm sun and no wind!

Students learnt many important life lessons and will be able to take this knowledge into their own lives and impact others that want to do the same.

Congratulations to student Neev Panchal (Y12) who recently won the Faith Thomas Drawing Prize in the National Youth Art Awards. Neev's coloured pencil drawing is titled 'Relief'.

Congratulations to our Mathswell teams on their outstanding results at the annual competition hosted at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington this week. Wellington College secured first place across all secondary school divisions - our first clean sweep since 2019 🏆

In our Y11 Sports Academy classes, the Leadership unit allows students to develop their leadership skills through practical, hands-on experiences.

Students plan a skill-based lesson and then coach their peers. They then reflect on their leadership and interpersonal skills, using specific examples to identify what worked well and the challenges they faced. The reflections help them grow as leaders in sport, at school, and in everyday life.

WELLINGTON RUGBY CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Our U55kg Gold Rugby team have been crowned Wellington Champions and have claimed the David Scott Cup for the third consecutive year!

The boys have played some outstanding rugby throughout the season, winning an impressive 14 of their 16 games. On Saturday, the WC boys won 52–12 over our old rivals, St Pat's Silverstream!

This is the beauty of rugby, there is a place for everyone, no matter your size. Find your role, work hard for your teammates and enjoy the game.

In other rugby news, this weekend sees our 1st XV (Premier 1), U16 Gold (Premier 3) and U15 Gold (U15 Div 1) all play St Pat's Silverstream in their grand finals.

Let's get behind the boys with some big support this weekend and help them bring the silverware back to Dufferin Street! ⚫️🟡

The Science Behind Sport ⚽️🛹🏋️‍♂️🚴

Across our Health & Physical Education classes, students have been exploring how the body moves, responds, and adapts to physical activity. From anatomy and physiology to biomechanics and training principles, students are discovering how the body's systems work together to improve performance and why the body responds the way it does to exercise.

Through engaging, hands-on practical activities, students are applying scientific concepts to real-world movement, helping them better understand not just what happens during exercise, but why it happens.

In Health & Physical Education, we're developing students who can think critically, apply science to performance, and make informed decisions about lifelong health and physical activity.

Unfortunately, we need to postpone our upcoming community event ‘The Party In Their Head’ scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 6 August 2026, to a later date as the main presenter is unwell.

We are currently working to confirm a new date and will share it with you as soon as possible.

We're celebrating Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki 'Airani - Cook Islands Māori Language Week at WC and the 2026 theme is:

Me kite koe i te tuatua i to’ou reo tupuna, e turanga rangatira tena nō’ou no te uki amuri atu - With our language as our foundation, we will embrace the future.

This proverb highlights that knowing and speaking your language will encourage future generations to do the same. It is a great reminder that keeping indigenous languages alive isn't just about looking back at history, but about giving the next generation a strong identity to stand on as they step into the future.
