Most people think one is better than the other.

Neither is.

Both are your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do.

Overthinking = stay in your head, stay in control.

Shutting down = feel nothing, stay safe.

Different strategies.
Same root.

The problem isn’t your coping style.

It’s that what kept you safe then
is keeping you stuck now.

And the good news, you can learn a new way.

Not by forcing yourself to stop.

By giving your nervous system evidence that it’s safe to do something different.

Save this if it landed.

Let me guess...You feel numb.

Disconnected. Like you can’t access anything?

And if you’re new to therapy, counselling or coaching, that can feel terrifying.

Like something is wrong with you.
Like you’re broken.

You’re not.

Emotional numbness is often your nervous system’s response to carrying too much for too long.

It’s not sabotage.
It’s protection.

Your body is saying, feeling everything right now isn’t safe. So it turns the volume down.

Your only job in these moments isn’t to force the emotions out.

It’s to create enough safety that your body feels okay to let them through.

Patience. Rest. Compassion. No forcing.
That’s the work nobody talks about.

If this is you right now, book a free connection call with me. Link in bio, let’s talk about coaching.

The reminder we all need sometimes, you are not your mistakes.

You are what you do after.

The repair.
The accountability.
The choosing differently next time, even when it’s hard.

Most people are so busy punishing themselves for the mistake, they never get to the part that actually matters.

The person you’re becoming is built in those moments after.

Not in the falling.

In the getting back up.

Save this for when you need the reminder 🤍

Is it your anxiety?

Or is it a genuine red flag?

If you have an anxious attachment style
this is one of the hardest things to figure out.

Here’s what I’ve noticed:

Your anxiety feels fast, loud, urgent.
Full of worst-case scenarios and what-ifs.
It wants reassurance NOW.

A genuine red flag tends to feel quieter.
But more consistent.
That small ni**le that keeps coming back
even after you’ve calmed down.

The test:

Regulate first. Breathe. Settle your nervous system.
Then revisit.

If the feeling disappears when you’re calm, it may have been anxiety.

If it stays, if that same pattern keeps showing up, listen to it.

Your anxious parts deserve compassion.
They’re not wrong. They’re trying to protect you.

But your intuition deserves to be heard too.

Save this for the next time you can’t tell the difference.

You can’t think your way out of a feeling.

Most of us were never taught to actually feel our emotions. We were taught to manage them.

Push through. Stay busy. Analyse. Intellectualise.

And it works, until it reeeeeeally doesn’t.

Until the emotion comes out sideways.

In the argument that wasn’t really about the argument.

In the shutdown nobody saw coming.

In the anxiety that just won’t switch off.

Your emotions aren’t the problem. The avoidance is.

Make space for them, or they’ll make it for you.

If you’re done being terrified of your own feelings, and ready to actually move through them so you can get on with building a life that feels meaningful, ditch the anxiety, and stop letting fear make your decisions.

You want to be seen.

Heard. Known. Chosen.

And the moment someone gets close enough to actually do that

you pull back.

Shrink. Perform. Disappear a little.

That’s not you being difficult.

That’s a part of you that learned
being seen wasn’t safe.

The work isn’t forcing yourself to be more visible.

It’s making it safe enough to be seen.

If you want to learn some free tools & practices to make this happen, comment or DM me “MESSY” and I’ll send you 3 free guided practices to help you work with the parts of yourself that feel stuck and create the safety within to get them unSTUCK 🩶
