A massive congratulations to Westlake's premier choirs for their success at The Big Sing Finale 2026!

Last week, Cantare, Choralation, and Voicemale travelled down to Christchurch to compete as three of 24 of the top choirs from around Aotearoa in the national Big Sing Finale. We are incredibly proud to announce that our Westlake choirs were the recipients of:

✨ Cantare - Gold Award

✨ Choralation - Gold Award & awarded the Trophy for Best Performance of an Early Style Work for 'Beati Quorum Via'

✨ Voicemale - Gold Award & awarded the Trophy for Best Performance of an Open Choice Repertoire for 'Songs of the Wizard'

Huge congratulations to the talented students and directors for their outstanding achievements, and sincere thanks to the staff for their support!

✨Father Daughter Breakfast 2026✨

Earlier this week, around 300 fathers, father figures, and daughters came together in our Events Centre for a wonderful morning of connection, great music from our Jazz Band and The Crimson Collective, and incredible inspiration!

A huge thank you to Westlake alumna and 4x Olympic sailor Jo Aleh for sharing her journey to Olympic Gold and Silver. From setting her sights on the Games at just 12 years old to making waves with Emirates Team New Zealand, her message to our students was unforgettable: work hard, back yourself, and above all - enjoy the journey.

What a comeback! 🏀🏆

Congratulations to Coach Bronwen Davidson and our Premier Basketball team on securing the Auckland Secondary Schools Championship title with a thrilling 63–60 victory over St Kent’s.

Overcoming a 17-point deficit, the team displayed exceptional resilience and composure, levelling the score in the final three minutes to complete a remarkable comeback. It was fantastic to have Tall Fern Imani Rasmussen back on court with an impactful performance after returning directly from pre-Olympic qualifiers in Mexico.

Thank you to the coaches, support staff, families, and community who backed the team every step of the way. A hard-fought, well-deserved, and unforgettable victory!

In week 5, our junior choir, Nota Bella (directed by Elise Bradley, MNZM), competed at the 2026 NZCF Upper North Island Cadenza. They presented two exceptional recitals, performing repertoire in English, te reo Māori, and Malay, as well as the test piece ‘Scarborough Fair’ arranged by adjudicator Brent Stewart.

We are delighted to celebrate their achievements, which reflect months of dedication, growth, and hard work. Nota Bella received a Tūī Award (Gold), and they also received the trophy for Best Performance of a piece in Te Reo Māori for ‘Tūī Canon’ composed by Takerei Komene (who also conducted that piece in the competition as the Nota Bella Conducting Intern).

A special mention and a huge thank you to Kate Webber (Nota Bella vocal tutor) and Sofia Onishko (Nota Bella collaborative pianist) for their outstanding musical contributions and support, as well as Westlake staff, friends, and families for their continued encouragement.

In week 4, our Westlake instrumental groups competed in the annual KBB Music Festival held at Holy Trinity Cathedral. 10 ensembles across Westlake Girls and Westlake Boys proudly represented Westlake, delivering exceptional musical performances throughout the week.

Westlake Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra performed as one of four ensembles in their respective Gala Concerts at the end of the week, demonstrating the fine talent of Auckland's young musicians. A number of Westlake musicians also participated in the Honours Programme, collaborating with the top talent from across Auckland in joint orchestral and band performances.

A huge congratulations to all of our musicians and directors for their outstanding achievements at KBB music festival this year!

A huge congratulations to Year 13 student Charley March, who has been selected for the New Zealand U20 Women’s Squad for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland this September! ⚽✨

To earn selection for a national U20 side while still in Year 13 is an incredibly impressive achievement and a reflection of Charley’s hard work, talent, and continued development.

We are extremely proud to see Charley representing New Zealand on the world stage and wish her and the team all the very best for the tournament!

Top 10 in the world! 🚣‍♀️🌍

A huge congratulations to our Deputy Head Prefect, Charlotte Mawston, on her outstanding performance at the World Rowing U19 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria! Competing in the Women’s Four, Charlotte and her crew placed 9th in an exceptionally competitive field.
