Tauranga Youth Academy

Tauranga Youth Academy Tauranga Youth Academy (TYA) is an alternative education school for rangatahi aged 13-15 years old.

Our school is another option, or another opportunity for education, because mainstream education, is not for everyone. AE is a different learning environment which is small and agile enough for rangatahi to belong and be seen. It is a place where rangatahi can come with all of their needs and know that their needs will be meet here. TYA is run by two qualified teachers, and has an education based program for year 9 to year 11 in the morning and an activities/community based program in the afternoon. The year 11 students all work towards obtaining NCEA credits using Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu or correspondence school. Students are picked up and dropped off each day to their homes, and we work together with whanau to support each students education journey. Students have the opportunity to return to mainstream school, transition onto further education or employment opportunities. TYA is always on the hunt for opportunities for our rangatahi within the community so if you think you can help in any way please send us a message.

Kia Ora e te whanau,

Just a bit of a photo dump…

Wow, it has been a while since we last did a post. We have been busy working hard behind the scenes putting together a fun filled curriculum plus activities such as, horse riding. Historic village, veggie pods to promote sustainable living and much much more to come.

Our tauira (students) are amazing, bright young people, all who have been achieving well on Te Kura and pitching in when and wherever they can. We look forward to posting more highlights for our whanau to see.

Ngā mihi whanau.
