Out for a run this morning (training for the Cape Egmont Half Marathon) and saw this famous sign down by the port. Taranaki Violin intrigued me so when I got home I did some googling! Turns out that Taranaki holds a unique piece of violin lore. The region's own Puke Ariki Museum houses a violin crafted in the 1920s by Ernest Alberthsen of Tututawa, uniquely carved from timber salvaged from a benzine box. Perhaps that's the violin the sign refers to?? Always makes me sad to see an instrument in such as stage of disrepair and not being played.......
