Nau mai - Haere mai - to all new and current whānau

We would like to warmly invite and welcome any students and their whanau who start school on Monday or who started through last term to our termly Mihi Whakatau out the front of our school on Monday the 20th of July at 9am. We really encourage all of our Tapanui School whānau to attend this special event as a way of making connections with our new families. It is not a long ceremony. New whānau, please meet your child at the letterbox once they have done the roll in their class. The rest of us will gather in the car park. We warmly invite you to join us in the staffroom for a cup of tea and some kai after our Mihi Whakatau.

What a stunning Matariki morning to be out formally installing the 5th Matariki bench as part of the Mauri Tu Matariki project and putting the plaque on it kindly funded by the West Otago Community Board. This bench represents the star Tupuarangi (one of the nine Matariki stars). It’s painted yellow to represent Tapanui School colours but also to reflect the beautiful kowhai trees that are planted all around Tapanui to feed the native birds. Thanks to all those who were able to come along and for also getting the next area in the sanctuary planted out! The saying “Team work makes the dream work” was certainly true today. What a wonderful way to celebrate the Māori New Year:) Mānawatia a Matariki! Happy Matariki! Enjoy the sunshine ☀️ch

Thanks to everyone who helped make our Mauri Ora Celebration such a special event. It was so neat to come together as a community of schools and education centres to showcase some waiata, te reo and haka for our community. From the littlest preschoolers to our most senior students...thank you West Otago for your support. It was also fabulous to have such a large crowd down at the Galaxiid Sanctuary in the afternoon to join Tapanui School in planting some special kowhai trees and for phase 1 of installing the 5th Matariki bench as part of the Mauri Tu Matariki Project. Special thanks to Blue Mountain Nurseries, West Otago Community Board, Tapanui Hammer Hardware, Blue Mountain College Technology Department, Lloyd McCall, Matua Wayne Turipa, Whaea Jaki Eales, Aron Miller and Andy Stuart.

What an awesome day skipping to keep our hearts healthy and raising money for the amazing Heart Foundation. Our Year 4/5 class hit the streets with their skipping and encouraged some of the locals to get involved and we had different groups of BMC students come and join us at school through the day! It was great to have some parents pop in too! Thanks everyone for being so positive and generous in your contributions to this special cause! Together we raised $2155.40!! Well done Student Council for the great initiative and organisation.
