Happy Father’s Day to the dads, stepdads, grandads, father figures and all the amazing people who get to play a special part in our children’s lives. 💙
Here’s to the early morning cuddles, the questionable jokes, the superhero lifts, the endless “why?” questions and the impressive ability to turn absolutely anything into a game.
And to the mums who are doing double duty — we see you too. ❤️
We hope today involves good food, and plenty of sticky fingered cuddles from the incredible kids you made.

When one of your very talented kaiako is also a qualified Occupational Therapist, opportunities to extend our tamariki’s strength, balance and co ordination abound.

In this activity, our tamariki loved shooting bean bags while balancing on a peanut exercise ball. We started off with kids going forward on their tummy and shooting the bean bag into the basket. Great for getting vestibular and proprioceptive input, engaging the core muscles and eye hand coordination. For those who could manage keeping one hand on the mat, this also targets crossing the midline and bilateral coordination similar to writing where one side is the working hand while the other supports. Those who wanted another go tried going on their backs and going upside down to either shoot the bean bags into the basket in front of them or getting a bean bag from the basket then trying to pull themselves up.

As part of our celebration of The Commonwealth Games last week, we set up a friendly competition of dinosaur races. Roll up the paper to help your dino race to the finish! We talked about being good winners and losers and how this game is about having fun and being respectful. The competition was fierce but the competitors were great sports, even when they lost.

Police Officer Murray was a popular visitor this morning, supporting our tamariki in their learning about the people in our community that help us.

Busy day at CMASA (Coast Montessori Aeronautics and Space Administration). First we had to build our rocket, which , if we’re honest, took way longer and way more kaiako, then it possibly should have). And then (obvs) we had to bling it up, cos our motto is ‘no dull and boring’. Teamwork makes the dream work though, right, so it’s looking pretty spiffy. Ready to launch. Almost. Kinda. Not really.
