One of the things i enjoy most about manaia is how adaptable they are. they can be simple or detailed, stretched to fill a space, or shaped to connect with other patterns.

This is just one way i draw mine, so use the steps as a starting point, experiment with the shapes, and make it your own.

Koiri is essentially two koru reflecting in on one another.

it’s one of my favourite patterns and can represent things like nurturing, self-reflection, and flourishing.

one of the things i enjoy most about Māori art is that one pattern can be drawn and arranged in so many different ways. you can explore how it moves, connects, and fills space, then adapt it into something that feels like your own.

manaia can look complicated at first, but once you break it down into simple parts, it becomes a lot easier to understand.

for me, i like to start with the head and then move onto the body.

the cool thing about manaia is that there are so many ways to draw them. Depending on your iwi but also your own creativity they can be simple or super detailed.

Remember this is just ONE way i draw mine, so give it a go, play around with the shapes, and see what you come up with.
