Each week a small group of curious Nature Explorers have hands-on adventures in nature - discovering, learning and growing together as we explore the forest, encouraging connection and a love for the natural world. As a centre we have decided to implement a nature based programme where a small group of children will be taken out of the centre each week to experience and discover wild nature. We ar
e implementing the programme with the aim to provide the children with an educational experience that will:
Develop emotional and physical resilience
Create a connection with and love for the earth. Develop friendships, leadership skills, and cooperation. Develop sense of wonder and creativity. Nourish their souls through nature. This will be a weekly excursion and will involve six children and two teachers. As we want the children to discover the rhythm of the seasons and the affects that the weather has on the environment we are committed to go in all weather conditions. We will ensure the children are dressed appropriately for the weather and ask for a commitment from the parents that their child will be allowed to attend in all weather. The programme will be run from Alexandra Redoubt in Tuakau, which we have chosen because of its many educational possibilities, range of fauna and wildlife, and sense of serenity. Angella and I have visited this area and discussed the benefits we see for the children, including the opportunities for self-directed learning, challenges and risk taking.
