Listening to this year's entries has been such a breath of fresh air, we are happy to hear from so many joyful, resilient and thoughtful young songwriters! While listening the judges are always keeping in mind the purpose of the contest – a song for young NZ kids to sing and sign. The winners this year have provided us with some stunning anthems. Congratulations to all of our entrants, you did not make this decision easy.

A big thank you to the New Zealand Choral Federation for running the Kids Online Singalong 2021 project. The final compilation video is now available.

Featuring 588 children from 16 primary and intermediate schools around the country singing and signing "Aroha I Aotearoa," composed by 14-year-old Anna Feillet from Otago Girls’ High School, the winner of this year's Hook, Line & Sing-A-Long competition.

We had an unprecedented 49 song entries this year, with over 120 students involved. As always it was great to hear the creativity and ideas of our Primary, Intermediate and Secondary school students and the judges thoroughly enjoyed the difficult process of deciding the winners. Congratulations to all the participants for entering – we wish we had an Award for everybody! Certificates and song feedback will be posted out to your schools over the holiday break.

As always the judges have had a wonderful but challenging time listening to the fantastic creativity of our young songwriters. With songs and talents such as those we have heard from the 47 entrants in this year’s competition it is clear that the future of NZ Music is in great hands. Contestants showed confident use of chord progressions, harmonies, dynamics and feel changes. Lyrics ranged from the thoughtful to the inspiring, through to cheeky and just downright fun. While listening the judges are always keeping in mind the purpose of the contest - a song for young NZ kids in schools to join in with up and down the country.

Congratulations to all contestants for your work and talent, and particularly to those below who really stood out.
