Had the pleasure of speaking about my work on hoarding disorder to the West Auckland - Housing Call To Action last week. Statistically around 4% of our population are living with this disorder, along with a plethora of complex safety issues, this is a very important conversation to be having. With hoarding disorder being a relatively newly diagnosable condition, there are still a lot of misconceptions out there and very few tried and true treatment plans. Longitudinal studies are lacking, funding and targeted services are scarce, workers are often overwhelmed, local stats are not being collected, and very few cross organisational policies are in place - there is a lot of work to do in this field.
It was a great networking event and I got to listen to other speakers and services present on various topics. It was nice to have some face to face time with other humans as most of my work is online.

1st training tour of Australia done and dusted – over the past three weeks 88 frontline workers have spent their valuable time learning about the many topics surrounding hoarding disorder, building confidence in their approaches, increasing their strategies for working with complex and challenging behaviours, and deepening their client-centred language and empathetic outlook. Grateful to be part of strengthening the workforce in a rapidly changing space - where the industry is balancing safety concerns of homes and distress of clients, with the demand for efficient and quick outcomes due to funding issues and service gaps. These demands are at odds with each other and the impact on frontline workers is harsh. One of my longer term goals is the longevity and mental health of our workers in these spaces.

Perth Hoarding Unpacked brought a fab collection of different agencies and experiences to the room. This pic is a group of awesome Queens of Clutter workers, all their workers have been through my training over the years. Across Australia and New Zealand this training has become mandatory for quite a few organisations and businesses now, with some people even coming back and redoing the training after a few years - I can’t think of better way to highlight the collective value and appreciation of this training! Tomorrow Adelaide, then Melbourne on Friday, then Canberra and ending in Brisbane April 1st.

A great turn out for Auckland’s training last week with so much positive feedback and gratitude from the participants. With requests to bring the training back up north next year. Off to New Plymouth and Palmerston North this week. Due to high demand - I have locked in a training for Canberra Australia in December. Last one for the year!
