We visited Te Matau-a-Māui, the mighty Hawkes' Bay this week! Fascinating to learn from our your tamariki about pest control in their rural areas. Did you know that wild goats, wild turkey and peacocks are a pest on farms?! Now we're busy thinking about how we can integrate te reo Māori learning into this interesting topic for our young rural learners. Our country schools are so unique and different to our urban ones. But they're all super passionate about learning te reo Māori through every area of life they enjoy. Kia manawanui to all those pest control enthusiasts out there! We're making good progress on our new project to integrate te reo Māori learning into the areas of agriculture and horticulture. Day 4 of the Te Puna Reo Māori English classes for Filipinos in New Zealand done and dusted! I'm thrilled to have had a good conversation in English today with Ma'am Hannah Iquidez from Invercargill during the class. The students are showing so much improvement in such a short time!

Fantastic News! We collaborated with Te Puna Reo Māori to provide FREE online English classes focusing on Filipino Stay-at-home Mums. Migrant dairy worker's wives often arrive at the start of the busy Calving Season and need to help the family adjust to the new culture, climate and language while caring for the family's needs. This could be a very stressful time for isolated migrant mums. These classes will help Filipino Mums communicate in English with ease and confidence while providing a sense of community with fellow Filipino Mums.

Classes will start on Monday 12 August 2024 and run daily online sessions 11am-12pm Monday- Friday. This pilot program will run for 6 weeks with plans to extend to after hours classes to include more members of our Filipino communities.
