The school has a proud sporting history being a leading Super 8 school and having a regular exchange with Wairarapa College. It also has a regular rugby exchange with Palmerston North Boys' High School, the Polson Banner, the oldest sporting trophy in the country. Napier Boys traditionally does ver

y well in local Hawke's Bay sporting competitions. The school has a large (approximately 30 hectare), impressive site that is situated by the sea. Originally built in brick in 1926, the school has now been fully redeveloped in the Art Deco style, in keeping with the Napier City theme. The spacious school grounds accommodate 4 rugby and 2 football pitches in winter and 2 grass cricket wickets in summer. There is also a large swimming pool on site. The school is also the site of the Hawkes Bay Holt Planetarium, which compliments the school's educational facilities. The boarding house (Scinde House) is located on-site, and accommodates 185 pupils in a mixture of motel and dormitory style accommodation. Other features of the school include an adjacent 13-hectare farm, and an outdoor education camp (Camp Simmons, located at Puketitiri on the Mohaka River).

Starting Friday 18th September at Midnight through to Saturday 19th September 4:00 PM, 9 of our prefects are stepping up to take on the gruelling 40-hour physical and mental endurance challenge, all to raise awareness for Men’s Mental Health.

Founded in 2023 by prefects at Tauranga Boys’ College, Fortress 40 has grown into a powerful inter-school movement. Jack Benton, 2025 Headboy, started the movement within our school last year and has passed the reins to Headboy Taika King and our Prefect team for 2026.

We are proud to partner once again with Jack and the team at Spark That Chat, with 100% of funds raised going directly to their vital work.

πŸ‘ A SPECIAL FAREWELL TO OUR YEAR 13 HOCKEY BOYS πŸ‘

Friday marked a very special occasion at NBHS, as five of our Year 13 students took to the field for their final game representing the school.

Between them, Jack Hayes (127 caps), Zak McGavock (109), Freddie Hunter (101), Mana Barham (60) and Blake Sanders (50) have amassed an incredible 447 caps for Napier Boys’ High School. πŸ‘

That is a staggering contribution to our hockey programme, and a testament to the commitment, dedication and pride these boys have shown throughout their time at NBHS.

It was only fitting that they left the field for the final time through an honour guard of their peers, a special moment recognising everything they have given to Skyblue hockey.

A particular congratulations to Blake Sanders, who brought up his 50th and final game for the school today in a thrilling victory over Trident High School. Blake was presented with his 50-game milestone by his Mum, Anna, a fantastic way to mark a memorable achievement.

Congratulations to all five boys on an outstanding contribution to NBHS Hockey. We thank you for your commitment and wish you all the very best for what comes next!

447 caps. One final walk off the field. A lasting legacy. πŸ‘πŸ”΅βšͺ
