Paths to Stillness

Paths to Stillness A service to cultivate mindfulness: bringing peace, calm, choice and awareness into your life through 1-1 sessions (women) and also beginner workshops (open).

I have been meditating for 17 years and have regularly completed courses in mindfulness training, including the MBSR (Mindfulness based stress reduction) course started by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have recently taken a certified mindfulness facilitation training course with Mindfulness in NZ. I have been on monastic retreats and enjoy contemplation. I have a Bachelor Applied Social Sciences (Major in Soc

ial Work) and studied for two years towards a Bachelor of Arts (Major in Psychology and Feminist Studies). I have worked in the disability and service sector in various paid and voluntary ways. I am also an experienced childcare caregiver and community support worker for high and complex behaviors and needs.

This does not mean we stop caring. Quite the opposite. We begin to sense life differently. We stay amazed. And as we see that it is all passing, the deepest response is to love it—because it is what we have been given. 💚

Feelings come and go
like clouds in a windy sky.
Conscious breathing
is my anchor.

"To eat good food or hear words of praise usually gives rise to a pleasant feeling. Flying into a rage or having a toothache is an unpleasant feeling. These feelings usually push us around, and we become like clouds blown in the wind. Our feelings of peace and joy will be more stable and lasting if we know the source of our so-called neutral feelings. The essence of happiness is a body that is not in pain and a heart and mind that are not oppressed by anxiety, fear, or hatred. Sitting in meditation, we can arrive at a stable feeling of joy, realizing the stillness of body and the clarity of mind. We are no longer pushed around by these 'roots of affliction' (Sanskrit, klesha), and we experience a feeling of well-being. The necessary condition for the existence of peace and joy is the awareness that peace and joy are available."
