This week we’re celebrating Solomon Aelan Pijin Evridei — Solomon Islands Pidgin Language Week 💛💙💚 A time to recognise the language, stories, and culture of Solomon Islanders here in Aotearoa.
Pijin is spoken every day across the Solomon Islands — connecting families, carrying history, and keeping identity strong.
This year’s theme, “Protektim langguis an kalsa blong yumi” (Protect our language and culture), reminds us how important it is to keep Pijin visible and valued for future generations.
Want to join in? Here are a few simple ways to celebrate:
• Learn a new Pijin phrase — try “Tagio tumas” (thank you very much)
• Explore Solomon Islands music, stories, or art 🎶
• Support Solomon Islands communities and events happening this week
• Use Pijin greetings in everyday conversations
Language keeps culture alive — and we’re proud to stand alongside our Pacific learners and whānau as we honour Pijin this week.

Mohammed inspires his students with his love for teaching Contact Centre. "I don’t just teach Contact Centre, I share my love for it. Every day I walk into class hoping to inspire my students the same way the job inspired me. My students even wore blue one day because they know it's my favourite colour."
Being a Contact Centre tutor means more than teaching scripts and calls, it’s about building confidence, creating career pathways, and celebrating wins together.
