One of our learning priorities at Early Discoveries Waimahia is keeping our children not only active but also promoting healthy eating. One way we can do this is through offering cooking experiences where children can taste a variety of fruit and vegetables. We also offer nutritious meals here at the centre.

Here at Early Discoveries Waimahia we have some extra fun ways to explore mathematics, one of these is by accessing the ‘Special room’ that is set up with Mathematical learning in mind, children are able to learn through hands on experiences with items, learning to recognize the numerals (written numbers) matching these to the quantity (Number of items) and also playing around with patterns and number games. Come and check out our special room and see all the possibilities for your Tamariki.

At Early Discoveries Waimahia we make it a priority to invite in our local community heroes. We encourage positive attitudes towards police and fire people, so that Tamariki know that they are there to help us.

At Early Discoveries children can play outside in all kinds of weather, we just encourage them to wear rain jackets and gumboots and off they go!

At Early Discoveries Waimahia we look at hands on ways for children to explore letter formation and letter sounds. We find that this hands-on approach really appeals to our boys too.

Kia Ora, it has been a while since our last post... we hope you are all keeping well! We have well and truly settled back in since the holidays and the recent mini lock-down. We wanted to share about the awesome group we have had in called 'Ready-Steady-Go-kids' they run a multi-sport programme and if our first session was anything to go by our tamariki are going to have so much fun learning lots of sporting skills and just generally getting to try out lots of sporting equipment. Here is just a snap shot of this weeks session, we will have Ready-Steady-Go-Kids in every Monday for the next few months.
