On Wednesday, we had the privilege of welcoming Manurewa Local Board members David Newman and Matt Winiata to our kura!
As we prepare to dive into our next inquiry unit, Power to the People, our tamariki had the opportunity to hear directly from local community leaders about their experiences serving on the Local Board and the responsibilities that come with representing our community.
As part of our special “Real Talk: Future Voters” interview session, our students asked thoughtful questions about how council decisions can impact them, their whānau and our wider community. They also explored ways they can have a voice and contribute positively to Manurewa, even before they are old enough to vote.
A key message from our kōrero was the importance of using our voice and encouraging our whānau to participate in voting.
A huge mihi nui ki a kōrua, ngā toka tū moana o tō tātou hapori! Thank you, David and Matt, for taking the time to come into our kura, share your knowledge and experiences, and inspire our tamariki to understand the power they have to make a difference in their community.
