📝 Senior Speech Competition Finals 🎤

At Wellesley we are incredibly proud of the way our boys embrace public speaking. Speaking in front of an audience can be one of life’s greatest challenges, and it is a skill that builds confidence, resilience, and leadership for the future.

This year, every single Year 7 and Year 8 boy prepared and delivered a speech to his peers - a fantastic achievement in itself.

On Friday we held our Senior Speech Competition Finals, with three Year 7 boys and five Year 8 boys taking to the stage. The audience was treated to an outstanding range of speeches covering topics as diverse as The Secret Life of Teachers, My Hero, and The Teenage Brain. Each finalist spoke with confidence, passion, and individuality, making for a thoroughly entertaining and thought-provoking event.

A huge thank you to our judges, Miss Aldridge and Laurina, who had the difficult task of selecting the winners from such a talented field.

Congratulations to Walter and Harry, who were awarded first place in the Year 7 and Year 8 categories respectively.

Most importantly, congratulations to every senior boy who stood up and shared his ideas. We are incredibly proud of your courage, preparation, and willingness to challenge yourselves. These are skills that will serve you well for years to come 👏🎉

⚽Wellesley Goes World Cup Mad! 🌍

What a fantastic FIFA World Cup 2026 Supporters’ Day!

From Argentina to South Korea, Portugal to Mexico, New Zealand to South Africa, our boys and staff proudly represented teams and countries from around the globe.

Wellesley was awash with colour, flags, football shirts, and plenty of World Cup spirit…and big smiles from our Mexico supporters 🇲🇽 (not so much from our large South African contingent 🙃).

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a fun celebration of football, culture, and global connection. We loved seeing the excitement, friendly rivalry, and shared passion for the beautiful game.

Who do you think will be lifting the FIFA World Cup trophy in 2026? 🏆⚽

⚽🌏 Wellesley FIFA World Cup 2026 Supporters’ Day 🌏⚽

Tomorrow (Friday) Wellesley will be celebrating FIFA World Cup 2026 Supporters’ Day!

Boys are welcome to wear their favourite football team kit, team colours, or proudly represent a country by wearing its colours or flag. Of course, boys are also welcome to wear their normal school uniform.

Please note this is not a fundraiser, so there is no cost to wear non-uniform.

Our Year 7 and 8 boys participating in the Senior Speech Finals are welcome to wear football kit during the day, but will need to change into full school uniform for the Speech Finals.

We look forward to seeing a colourful display of football passion from around the world! ⚽🏆

Year 1–3 Gymnastics Festival 🤸‍♂️

Last week our Year 1–3 tamariki enjoyed a fantastic Gymnastics Festival hosted by Hutt Valley Gymnastics at their centre in Moera.

The boys spent the day climbing, balancing, swinging, jumping, crawling and challenging themselves through a variety of fun gymnastics stations. From balance beams and tunnels to vaults, bars and obstacle courses, there were smiles, determination and plenty of encouragement on display.

The festival was a wonderful opportunity for our younger boys to develop confidence, coordination, balance and teamwork while having an absolute blast with their classmates.

A huge thank you to the team at Hutt Valley Gymnastics for creating such an engaging and energetic experience for our tamariki. What a fun-filled day of movement and adventure!

💃 What a night! 🕺🏼

A huge thank you to our amazing Wellesley Parents’ Association (and friends) for hosting fantastic Junior and Middle School Discos on Friday evening 🪩

Our School Hall was transformed into a vibrant party space where our tamariki could enjoy a fun night with friends and whānau. We loved seeing so many bright outfits, happy faces and energetic dance moves lighting up the hall!

Events like these don’t happen without the incredible efforts of our WPA volunteers and supporters. Thank you for giving our boys and families another wonderful opportunity to connect, celebrate and build community together.

Back to School Day 2026 💙

Last Friday, on a classic ‘Wellington On A Good Day’ day, more than 60 recent Wellesley Old Boys returned to where it all began.

The day kicked off with a welcome and a legendary sausage sizzle, expertly run by Mr Blandford, before our old boys joined current students on the field for lunchtime rugby, football, basketball and plenty of catching up.

At assembly, former students shared stories and reflections from their journeys since leaving Wellesley. One highlight was hearing our school song sung by generations of Wellesley boys together. As Mrs Morgan remarked, it definitely sounded richer with our old boys singing with such pride and enthusiasm.

The afternoon finished with a fiercely contested tug-of-war competition, where old house rivalries quickly resurfaced. Congratulations to Wellington House, who claimed the bragging rights for 2026!

A huge thank you to the Wellesley Foundation for supporting this special event and to our staff who worked behind the scenes to make the day such a success.
