Our next newsletter for Term 3 is here.
There’s lots happening around our kura, and plenty to celebrate. From strong mid-year learning gains and our tamariki caring for our Enviro School garden, to swimming fun, sports and an awesome Winter Disco - it’s been a busy few weeks!

What an action-packed week for Team Tuakana (Years 4, 5 & 6)!

Our students wrapped up three incredible weeks of swimming lessons with a well-deserved, super fun swim day to celebrate their progress and water confidence!

Back in the classroom, the creativity and learning haven't stopped:
🗺️ Sculpting 3D playdough maps of the North Island to explore geography hands-on.
👾 Crafting wild 3D monsters while diving into geometry and spatial skills.
🎲 Leveling up their problem-solving with interactive maths games!

We are so proud of the effort, creativity, and enthusiasm Team Tuakana brings every single day. Keep up the amazing work!

The Ministry of Education is consulting on the proposed school zone, with feedback closing Tuesday 1 September.

Senior Camp is not too far away! 2 Fridays to go and 17 days until the big trip!

This Friday, 28 August, tamariki can enjoy Toasted Cheese for $3, Fruit Juice for $2.

As always, this is a PRE-ORDER ONLY fundraiser. Orders and payment need to be sorted by Thursday 27 August so we can get everything organised and ready for Friday.

A few important reminders:

Order forms must be returned to the office by Thursday, even if you pay online.
No Friday orders please – we purchase everything on Thursday.
You can pay online or by cash/EFTPOS at the office on Thursday.
Please make sure your child’s name and classroom are clearly completed on the form.
Spare forms are available from the school office if the form doesn’t make it home in the School Bag Express! (example of the form pictured).

Every toasted sandwich and juice helps us get our tamariki one step closer to Camp – thanks for getting behind our Camp Countdown Fridays!

Medical certificates

Kia ora whānau,

We know there are lots of bugs going around at this time of year. We understand that when tamariki are sick, they need to stay home and get better.
Because we are seeing a high number of absences due to illness, we now need a medical certificate if your child is away sick for 3 days or more.

This is not because we don't believe your child is sick. The certificate helps us keep our school records right and report the number of illness-related absences to the Ministry of Education.

Please let us know if your child will be away for 3 days or more.

Kia ora ngā whānau,

Just a quick heads-up about squishies and other jelly-filled sensory/soothing toys.

Unfortunately, we’ve had a few issues with these being broken or damaged at school, and more concerningly, we have had some tamariki eating or tasting the jelly-like substance from inside them.

While we know that many children really enjoy these toys and find them calming, we need to put the safety of our tamariki first. Because we can’t be certain what is inside all of these products, we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks.

For this reason, from now on, please do not allow your child to bring squishies or other jelly-filled toys to school. This will remain in place until further notice.

We’re certainly not wanting to take away something children enjoy. This is simply about keeping everyone safe and avoiding a preventable health and safety incident.

Thanks so much for your understanding and support with this. As always, looking after our tamariki is the most important thing.
