Have you seen my handmade sign around town? Yep, she’s an old school wooden sign that’s hand painted by me. 👌

I usually pop it outside a doorway if I’m doing an event or class, to help people find the entrance to a venue.

Here it is on the Masonic Lane in Kerikeri.
A spot I’m at every term for my Kids Afternoon Art and often my Adult Basics Classes for coming up 3 years now! Whew 😅

So if you ever see it then feel free to have a nosey and say “Hey”. 👋

Term 3 has been a real treasure for me here in Kerikeri. I’ve had the chance to work closely with so many aspiring young artists! 👩‍🎨

Yesterday we gave Charcoal a try… which was a first for every single child in my class!
All the students were under the age of 8 so I gave them a quick demo on how to get started then they were off trying to figure out how to make their portraits of their friend in the class look realistic.

Lots of closer looking,
lots of exploring,
lots of problem solving,
and lots of learning together . 💗🎨

I often don’t make a full concept art work for the kids to see, just enough to understand what we’re doing, the skills and processes then I let them dive into the session…

There’s also always one kid who’s saying “I don’t want to do that, I want to do this” which I reply with “sounds cool, give it a go and if you need help I’ll be around the table soon to see where you’re at with it”

I call that taking inspiration in the moment and I love seeing my students get excited about an idea while leaning into problem solving. We ask a lot of questions, we try things and we figure it out which builds those strong creative skills.

Another wonderful Community Sketch Meet up.
We were at Redwoods Cafe Kerikeri today - bit cold to be outside !! Brrr but we had a fun time drawing and lots of chats 💬🌀🎨

Unpopular Oppinion Time 🫣
✨ I use and have used ChatGPT… but I’m not a fan of it. 🤖

Lately I’ve seen a lot of Ai online and people personally using it (yes even during my classes!!) 😅

Although I do think Ai is a fun tool to play with 🔧I personally don’t think it’s good for my imagination and thought development to do with art, which is why I don’t use it in my business.

🚨🚔 I hate to be the Ai police and I’m not saying I never use it! ~Trust me I have!
It’s lots of fun and really really easy… maybe too easy… ?🤷🏼‍♀️

For me I believe my art and creative events are all about authenticity, skill building, awakening your imagination and a unique experience. Fostering connection with others and most importantly ourselves is a key part of it.

Be that for kids or adults. 💗

🖌️🫧 Lastly here is a non-ai normal photo of my day washing brushes and cups for my painting events. If Ai could do that part for me I’ld be a lot happier to use it in my business! 😂✨

Many were scared to give it a go and for many it was their first time with the watercolour brush, but wow they had some stunning results.

Today the ladies from Top of the North Island Rural Women NZ did some stunning watercolour work.
