Thank you to everyone who has helped St Patrick’s improve our Attendance! 🙏👏🙏

Top marks to schools across Waimakariri for improved attendance figures in the first half of the school year!
In Term 1, 71.4% of Waimakariri students attended school more than 90% of the time, compared with 61.5% in 2023. Poor attendance was also down to 4.6% students attending less than 70% of the time, compared with 5.9% in 2023.
I'm proud of the work our schools have put in to ensuring students are best placed to achieve. Attendance is a big part of academic success and I applaud parents for also getting on board to raise attendance rates.

Amanda & Dominique Harrison ( Yes! Mr Harrison’s daughter) came from the Police Forensic Team to talk with our Senior Whare this afternoon. They enjoyed learning about what forensics is, how to collect fingerprints, putting on PPE gear and how different forensics is from the TV shows! A big thank you to Mr Harrison for organising this interesting and informative visit! Apparently our Senior Whare students asked some amazing questions!

So true … 🙏

So true … 🙏

Teaching has never been easy, but lately, it feels like teachers are being asked to carry more than what happens inside the classroom.

That is why these words from Pope Francis feel especially meaningful today, “To be a teacher is to live a mission.”

Especially now, when teachers can so easily be blamed for the behavior of the very children they are also trying their best to guide.

Pope Francis once reminded us that “one does not teach what one knows, but what one is.”

And perhaps that is the heart of teaching.

Students may forget the lesson written on the board, but they may never forget the teacher who was patient with them, corrected them with kindness, believed in them when they were struggling, or simply made them feel seen.

But let us also remember that raising a child has never been the responsibility of the school alone.

Teaching is more than a profession. It is a mission lived every day through patience, sacrifice, guidance, and love.

And that mission deserves not only our expectations, but also our respect, understanding, and support.
