This ❤️ I also have some very incredible people who enable our adventures. A big thanks to all my supporters. Time for me to start planning those next camps... watch this space ☺️
Sometimes I wonder if people only see the finished picture....
They see the horses at home... they see the arena... they see the new car and float. They see me working for myself, they see the social media posts and think, she's living the dream. Which don't get me wrong, I am - but what they don't see is...
That I literally work non stop... I would hate to think of the hours I put in each week. The first five years running MRS I worked a full time corporate job commuting to the C*D then went and taught in the afternoons and evenings. I still do recruitment and content on the side, even now.
They don't see that Andy and I live week to week. They don't see that we haven't built this on endless money. We've built it on sacrifice.... we've missed holidays. Literally our last trip was five years ago. We don't buy ourselves nice things outside of necessities. I don't take weekends off. I might not teach weekends - but I work every single day because when you choose horses, they don't stop needing you outside of lesson hours.
Almost every dollar that comes through this place goes straight back into the horses. Feed. Hay. Vet bills. Fencing. Arenas. Maintenance. The list never ends.... the reality is, we don't make money doing this. Could I earn more doing something else? Definitely. I could go back to recruitment and have a nice 6 figure Mon to Fri role. It always calls to me, especially in winter 🤣
But that's never been the point. The point has always been about sharing this insane passion I have and the joy it brings me with others... It's for the horses, and for our riders. The people we meet. The little kid who arrives terrified and leaves beaming. The adult who rediscovers a passion they'd lost years ago. The friendships formed... the community we've somehow created together... the shared love for my team. Giving people an opportunity to get the chance to learn from these beautiful animals who give so much to us and feel the connection I feel.
We've also had incredible people step into our lives when we've needed them the most. People who've supported us, believed in us, helped us when things felt impossible. We are so deeply grateful for every bit of help we've received
I didn't write this because I want sympathy. I wrote it because sometimes carrying the weight of people's assumptions is hard and
'success' doesn't always look like what people think it does. We know this. Behind every photo of somebodies horse tacked up for a ride is someone wondering how they'll pay the next vet bill. Behind every lesson is hours of work no one ever sees. Hours spent thinking about riders, horses, and the admin of keeping everything running smoothly.
Behind this dream is me.... pouring absolutely everything I have into creating something for others to enjoy. And despite all of that, I wouldn't change it. Because every family who becomes part of this community reminds us exactly why we (I 🤣) keep choosing this life. SO greatful to have the support from my husband, family and friends too, in this lifestyle choice.
Just me keeping it real, thanks for listening - a big thank you to everyone who is/has been a part of our MRS family, stood by me/us even when I have been a s**t wife/friend/family member/mum, believed in us, and reminded us when it's hard, that its worth it. You're a big part of my WHY we are still here. Xx
