Giveaway Time - Round Two ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ซ When winter comes with chilly air,
at kindergarten we meet it there,
with rosy cheeks and morning cheer,
and beanies warming every ear.

Not from a shop in rows and racks,
but made with care on knitting laps,
each one a gift, both soft and strong,
that keeps us cosy all day long.

We pull them down, we give a tug,
it feels just like a woolly hug,
and off we go to play and learn,
while winter winds may twist and turn.

At kindergarten, warm and bright,
we carry comfort into flight -
with beanies made by loving hands,
weโ€™re ready for the winter lands. ๐Ÿ’ซ

To celebrate the gift of warmth once again, weโ€™re giving away a beautiful handmade woollen beanie - perfect for keeping little heads cosy on crisp mornings and outdoor adventures ๐ŸŒณ

Many parents are asking: How much technology is too much?
In a Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten, children grow through real-life experiences - climbing, building, storytelling, singing, cooking, and caring for the garden. They have time to explore, imagine, and try things out, guided by warm, loving adults they can look up to. Early childhood is a special time to develop practical skills, creativity, resilience, and confidence - capacities that will serve them for years to come. There will be more than enough time later for screens and technology; for now, real life is their greatest teacher, and plenty of time and space given for children to play out these experiences to help make sense of the world in which they live.

Handmade Gifts & Festival Preparation ๐Ÿงบ๐Ÿซ

Festival preparation brings a special sense of anticipation and care into the kindergarten. Our kaiako have been lovingly crafting small handmade gifts ๐ŸŽ for the tamariki to take home - quiet work done with warmth, intention, and the spirit of the season in mind.

When children receive something that has been carefully made for them, it carries a feeling of thoughtfulness and connection ๐Ÿ’›

These gestures help create a sense of belonging and celebration that lives on long after the festival has passed.

This gentle preparation is part of the deeper rhythm of festival life in our kindergarten, where meaningful traditions are created year by year ๐ŸŒพ

We wish all our whaanau a very happy Easter! Ngaa mihi o te Aranga

Easter & the Autumn Harvest ๐Ÿ‚

In Aotearoa, Easter arrives alongside the Autumn Harvest, and this beautiful meeting of the seasons lives warmly in our kindergarten each day โœจ

Through stories, verse, waiata ๐ŸŽถ, morning circle, and our seasonal tables, the children experience the rhythm and meaning of the festival in a gentle and joyful way.

Our seasonal tables quietly reflect the changes in the natural world ๐Ÿ- the rich colours of autumn, the sense of gathering in, and the mood of the season. These visual and sensory experiences help the children feel the festival through atmosphere and rhythm, rather than explanation.

These shared moments of celebration and togetherness ๐Ÿค become treasured memories for the children and a meaningful part of their early childhood.

This is the joy of festival life here in our kindergarten ๐ŸŒˆ

There is a quiet kind of abundance that comes with autumn.

Our community sharing table is once again filled with the gifts of the season - quinces, homemade quince jelly, fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables, duck eggs, and flowers. Each offering has come either from our kindergarten gardens or from the generous hands of our whaanau.

This table is here to be shared. Whaanau are warmly invited to take something home - a small gesture of care, nourishment, and connection.

It is a simple expression of our values: that what is grown with love can be given freely, that community is strengthened through sharing, and that tamariki learn through seeing generosity lived, not just spoken.

If this way of being resonates with you and your family, we welcome you to learn more about our kindergarten.

When children move, imagine ๐Ÿ’ญ, and play freely, they are building the foundations for later learning โ€” developing coordination, language, resilience, social understanding, problem-solving, and the inner motivation that makes formal learning meaningful when the time is right ๐Ÿ“–

At Miro House Kindergarten we treasure this precious time of childhood ๐Ÿƒ Our environment is thoughtfully prepared so children have the time, space, and inspiration to become deeply absorbed in their play. This allows for unhurried moments of imagination, exploration ๐Ÿชถ, and collaboration โ€” children strengthen their bodies, their relationships with others, and their confidence in the world around them.

We see this deep, self-directed play as the true work of early childhood โ€” laying the foundations for healthy learning in the years to come ๐ŸŒพ

Wishing all a year of happiness and prosperity โœจ

In these late summer days, as the light begins its gentle turning toward autumn ๐Ÿ‚, we gathered to honour the Chinese New Year ๐Ÿฎ

Through the generosity of our whaanau, tamariki were able to experience something living and authentic. We watched in quiet reverence as traditional Chinese calligraphy unfolded before us โ€” ink ground carefully on the ink stone, the soft brush working with intention and care, each character emerging on the paper as we watched. It was captivating.

We followed this up with learning how to make dumplings ๐ŸฅŸ This simple act of preparing food generated a sense of purpose and togetherness. Then getting to taste what we had made with our own hands completed the experience.

Festivals in our kindergarten are not spectacles, but living experiences โ€” carried by gesture, craft, food, and community. We are deeply grateful to our whaanau who help us widen the childrenโ€™s horizons while strengthening their sense of belonging ๐ŸŒ

What a beautiful way to end our kindergarten year โœจ

Today, on our final day together, we shared a marionette puppet play with the children ๐ŸŽญ

Shortly afterwards, one child quietly said he wanted to โ€œdo what you did.โ€ He invited a friend to join him, and together they spent a long, unhurried time planning โ€” deciding what they need, gathering materials ๐Ÿงบ, and carefully working out where each prop should live.

What followed was something truly special. With deep concentration, cooperation, and imagination, they created their own puppet play. No rush, no adult direction โ€” just two children carrying an experience into their own purposeful play ๐ŸŒˆ

This is the kind of learning that warms the heart ๐Ÿค: inspiration becoming imitation, creativity growing from care, and friendship finding its rhythm through shared mahi ๐Ÿค

A stunning moment, and a perfect closing note to our year together ๐ŸŒฟ

At this time of year, our kindergarten environment gently reflects a sense of anticipation and quiet wonder โœจ

Our nativity scenes and advent wreaths are set out as ways to help mark this season of anticipation, reflection, and the warmth we create together ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

These small, beautiful displays offer children a peaceful way to sense the rhythm of the year and the special feeling that accompanies this time ๐Ÿ’š

We hope you enjoy this glimpse into our space as we move toward the summer holidays and the festive season ๐ŸŽ„
