During our learning time at Go Bananas Kelston, tamariki were meaningfully engaged in a range of experiences connected to ANZAC Day. They explored remembrance by creating poppy flowers and garlands, developing an early understanding of respect and remembering others. Through group work and social play, children learned alongside each other, strengthening their communication and cooperation skills. Literacy learning was evident as tamariki listened to stories, interpreted pictures, and shared their ideas, while numeracy and problem-solving were supported through sorting activities. Using a Reggio-inspired approach, children explored writing outdoors with chalk and cardboard, expressing their creativity freely. A highlight of the day was when a group of tamariki collaboratively constructed an aeroplane using blocks. They engaged in rich imaginative play, taking turns as pilot and air hostess, demonstrating strong communication, role negotiation, and social interaction. This experience reflected how learning together supports confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
