Skye achieved 1st Place in the Junior Girls category and an amazing 3rd Place Overall across the entire competition! 🥉

Koru Games 2026: Stay Up to Date with Draws & Results!

The Koru Games are fast approaching, and our athletes are getting ready to compete! If your ākonga is participating, here is everything you need to know to follow their schedule and results throughout the tournament.

Canterbury Secondary School Term 4 Summer Sports registrations are now open.

That's a wrap on the South Island Secondary School Netball Tournament! 🏐
Our Senior A squad represented Hornby High School with incredible pride, resilience, and heart all week long.

The match of the tournament was easily our 9 AM semi-final yesterday against Westland High School. Tensions were high, and after ending in a draw, it went to a high-stakes overtime battle! Despite an awesome fight, Westland edged ahead to take it 38–36. This placed us fighting for 23rd and 24th place.
Despite this, the girls dug deep for their final game at 12 PM against Mackenzie College. Leaving everything on the court, they locked in a dominant 31–23 win to finish the tournament on a high!

Standout Moments:
Lucy McKinney (Yr 9): Stepped up big time at GA following an injury and put on an absolute masterclass!
Team Grit: Pure heart from the whole squad fighting through the fatigue and injuries.

Basketball update:

Day two was overall a really positive one. In game three we went down to a very strong John McGlashan, the game ebbed and flowed but finished 80-62, they have finished top of our pool after round robin play. The boys showed great sportsmanship during this game, one of the staff from John McGlashan even called the school to give positive feedback about the boys and our humble coach Richie. Notable performance from Zeandray for his relentless high energy and 100% focus on court.

Game four we played Mountain View High School. Our boys were on another level, so it was a great chance for some of the younger players to get some descent minutes. The final score was 128-45. Deshi was particularly impressive with his calm demeanour and Abass showed game smarts beyond his years with some excellent assists. The future of the team is looking bright.

Update - Day 1 at the NZ Basketball Southern Cup 🏀

Game 1 saw us come up against a tough Rangiora High School side, eventually going down 88–63 against their watertight defense. Shoutout to Evan for a standout performance with his locked-in, man-on-man defense!

Game 2 against Taieri College was an absolute nail-biter from start to finish!
The boys took the lead in the first quarter and held on tight as Taieri kept closing the gap. Up by just two points with 40 seconds to play, a missed layup from Taieri allowed us to close it out and lock in an 83–79 victory!

Standout performances:
Cairo: Brought silky moves and elite game smarts when it mattered most.
Sekali: Executed his job under the hoop to absolute perfection.

🏸 Canterbury Badminton Tournament Results! 🏸

What an incredible three days of action in Christchurch! We took a record-breaking squad of 19 students to the tournament, and the effort, sportsmanship, and support on display were second to none. We definitely had the loudest cheering squad in the hall!

Our players competed across two divisions — the elite Championship division and the competitive Cup division — with several students battling through elimination rounds all the way to the semi-finals and finals.

CHAMPIONS:
Gnana Boddu (Year 11) – Winner, Year 11–13 Boys Singles Cup 🥇

Xyryll Elviña & Kate Pabillore (Year 9) – Winners, Year 9–10 Girls Doubles Cup 🥇

PLATE WINNERS
Aaron Salomon (Year 13) & Kirsten Nuñez (Year 9) – Both took home 'Plate' awards for exceptional runner-up performances!

A massive Ngā mihi nui to Whaea Jude Howie and Ben Lowe (Youth worker) for your invaluable time & support supervising the team. An extra special thank you to Sian Canton and Kana Shedlock-Whiu for taking on the huge task of organising our largest tournament squad ever — we couldn't have done it without you all! ❤️

A massive thank you to all our players, coaches, families, and supporters for the huge effort and dedicated time you’ve poured into our basketball program this year.
