Today, some of the Prepschool tamariki planted new native plants at St Martins Park as part of our ongoing collaboration with Christchurch City Council and our role as kaitiaki of St Martins Park. 🌿

Ngā mihi nui to Ruby from CCC and to the parent helpers who joined us today! 💚 It was also so special to see the native trees we planted last year and how much they have grown.

Through this mahi, tamariki have been learning about biodiversity and how planting native trees and plants can help bring more manu and other creatures back into our city and local parks. 🐦🦋🌳

Power down day 🔋💡🚴‍♀️⚡️🔌 Today at Poppies we had a power down day which meant reducing our use of power as we learn more about “Sustainable Futures” our current place based learning focus. We have been learning about natural sources to create energy and power such as wind, water, sun and geothermal activity. Tawhirimatea was blowing today so we hung our washing out to dry instead of using power for our dryer! We turned off the lights and used Te Rā (sun) natural light to see. We also used our bikes to explore how movement can create energy, getting our bodies moving while learning about energy in action! 🚲💨 We also talked about simple ways we can reduce power and be sustainably conscious. 🌎

Matariki ✨
Thank you everyone for coming last night! Was so nice to see whānau and friends celebrating Matariki with us.
Very proud of our tamariki who sung amazing waiata, making the soup and all the preparation that they put into this special night. 🩶

Te Taiao - Nature provides the best opportunities for exploration.

This morning's frosty start left us plenty of ice to explore - cold, hard, soft, reflective, slippery, smashable... so many ways to play with it were discovered!
