Auē e kare mā! This week has been heavy. As many of you may know, I am currently deep in writing mode as the deadline approaches for my masters research. The kaupapa of my research is Te Whakarauora o te tuakiri Māori - The revitalisation of Māori identity specifically in adulthood. There is a growing number of adults who grew up disconnected from their Māoritanga but have found the courage to listen to the karanga of their tūpuna and reconnect. This week I have been writing about the struggles and barriers that we face while reconnecting. That alone creates a heavy heart. But during this week, many who are reconnecting and revitalising tikanga Māori in their life, came face to face with a very public and unfortunate view on reconnection that has stirred up so much mamae.
To those on Te Ara Whakarauora - The Path of Reconnection, this path is for you. Your whakapapa gives you the mana and authority to reconnect. You are not alone on this path, and your experiences are valid. Ahakoa he taumaha, ahakoa he uaua, me haere tonu. You are allowed to reconnect.
Toitū te mana Māori, Toitū te ao tūroa

Ngā mihi o te tau hou Pākehā ☺️
After a few days of being stuck behind a computer planning for all the mahi thats on this year, we as a whānau (or 3 generations) spend time harvesting toetoe for tukutuku pannels. The revitalisation of te ao Māori in our whānau started with toi Māori, and is still a strong part. And just like the reo, it's become multi generational.
Toitū te ao Māori ❤️🤍🖤
