From 5 October 2026, the Parent Resident Visa Category will move to a new hybrid selection model. Most Expressions of Interest (EOIs) will be selected in date order, while a smaller number will continue to be selected through a ballot.

The next Parent Resident Visa selection draw will proceed as scheduled on 11 August 2026 under the current settings. The first selection under the new hybrid model is scheduled for 10 November 2026.

The changes are intended to provide families with greater certainty and a clearer pathway through the process.

If you already have an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the pool, you do not need to do anything. Your EOI will automatically move into the new system, and we will provide more information before the changes take effect about what this means for you.

An employer who demanded tens of thousands of dollars from a migrant worker has been sentenced following an Immigration New Zealand investigation.

Exploiting migrant workers is unacceptable. Everyone in New Zealand has the right to fair treatment at work, and we will continue to investigate allegations of exploitation and, where appropriate, hold employers to account when they break the law.

If you are experiencing exploitation, or know someone who is, help is available. You can report migrant exploitation confidentially by calling 0800 200 088 or completing the online reporting form. If you choose to report, providing accurate information and working with authorities can help protect vulnerable workers and stop exploitation.
