Camp Wakarara would like to do a bit of a shout out to Elisha Walker from Tree Walkers who does tree work we need doing around the camp.

Elisha always does a top job, leaves the worksite super tidy and always charges honestly and fairly.

Give Tree Walkers a call for all your tree work around Hawke's Bay!

Come along and help out! We will be splitting firewood, doing a bit of painting and general tidying of our great camp.

You gave feedback, we listened!

Recently a survey was sent to our recent users of Camp Wakarara. Two highlighted items were modernisation of facilities and better hot water.

We have recently repainted and carpeted two of our largest bunk rooms and we have also installed a big efficient hot water cylinder to run our showers. The pressure is amazing!

Check out some photos.

Remember, it’s not just schools who can use Camp Wakarara. Sports teams, family groups, church groups, tramping clubs etc etc all use our camp. Get in contact with us today!

Are you thinking of taking a group up to Camp Wakarara, but you aren't sure of what you could possibly do up there? Keep your eyes open, as we share a new activity each week.
Activity #1 - Design the best burger
Camp Wakarara has a purpose built outdoor cooking facility, 8 wood-fired barbecues under cover. So, even if it is raining you can still cook outside. These barbecues are perfect for groups of children to create their own meals. Give each group a set of ingredients, let them choose some 'extras' to spice up their burgers and hey presto! It's a night off cooking for the parents. This is a great way for the children to learn a few new skills - how to light a fire in preparation for cooking, preparing food in a safe and hygienic way, time management skills, cooperation skills, presentation skills, and of course, cleaning up skills at the end. I can guarantee that children will eat all of the food that they prepare, and they will declare it the best ever burger!
Oh, and the teachers and parents?? They don't really get a night off. They are usually preparing their own delicious burgers, trying to outdo the children.
Just remember to stock the firewood before you leave camp!

If you know Camp Wakarara then you might also know that it is run by a team of volunteers who are on a constant quest for continuing Wakarara as a great place to camp.

Recently we have invested some serious cash into removing some trees that were causing damage to roofs, re roofing two large buildings and fencing front paddocks to extend the useable space for schools and groups.

We also had a wonderful working bee where many great people combined their powers to clear brush, process firewood and work on the camp.

Check out some of the photos!

A massive thanks to Elisa Walker from Tree Walkers for coming up with her mulcher and to Tom and the team from Peak Contracting for their amazing fencing work. Most of all, thanks to all the volunteers who showed up on the day.

Camp Wakarara is run by a small group of dedicated volunteers. We aim to have 2 working bees each year, and would always appreciate a few extra hands to help out. Does this sound like you? Firewood - sawing, splitting, chipping, stacking. Firepit and BBQ tables - tidying up. Pruning, weeding, clearing. We are sure we could find a job to suit your abilities.
Come along, share your memories of this amazing CHB icon!
