Antenatal and Parent Education

I’ve had a number of people cancel their Antenatal registration lately in preference for an “online course”
I know times are tough out there with the current cost of travel and fuel.
What people don’t seem to realise is that you don’t get a support network from an online class.
Meeting other new Mums and Dads and sharing experiences, emotions and on occasion the opportunity to download is one of the most valuable support systems you can have as a new parent. I have always believed it’s equally if not more important than the education.

Soon, we will be meeting with ACC to provide feedback on the Maternal Birth Injury (MBI) scheme.
This meeting is only about the injuries covered by the scheme.
ACC (& Ministry for Business and Innovation/MBIE) are looking at a possible review of the injuries that can be accepted under the MBI scheme.
💙 This meeting will look at other injuries that are caused by the birth, that are not currently covered by the MBI scheme 💙
So, if you have had an injury because of birth which is not on the current list of approved injuries but was certainly because of birth (a GP/physio/midwife/OB has confirmed this), please let us know in the comments, via DM or via email ([email protected]) and we will take this feedback to ACC & MBIE.
We know there's other issues with some of ACC's processes (that's a kōrero for another day/meeting) but this meeting is just about the injuries that are/may be covered by the legislation (law) and how we can possibly extend the scheme to cover more Māmā/birthing parents.
Thanks so much for any feedback you have - please let us know by Friday, November 28th 💙

100% agree on this.
I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but babies. can’t. be. spoiled. 💕
It’s one of my biggest pet peeves when people make little comments like, “You’re going to spoil that baby if you keep picking them up,” or “You’ll never get them to sleep alone if you keep holding them.”
Let me say this as loud as I can for the tired mamas and daddies out there: Responding to your baby’s cries is not spoiling them…it’s PARENTING.
A newborn isn’t crying to manipulate you. They’re not keeping a tally of how many seconds you take to come comfort them.
They cry because they need you. Because the world is big and loud and scary and they spent months tucked safely inside of you. YOU are their safe place. Your arms, your voice, your smell…it’s how they know they are loved and protected. 💗
When you pick up your baby, you are teaching them the most important lesson they will ever learn: that they matter, that their needs will be met, that they are safe.

Decoding Your Baby's Hunger Cues 🍼👶

*Mid Cues - "I'm really hungry"*
