The Justice Sir Robert Chambers First Year Moot is here ⚖️

This moot is a great opportunity for Part I law students to develop their mooting ability and get feedback before their compulsory Part II moots. Mooters will be assigned a senior law student to help answer any questions they have regarding mooting.

If that didn’t convince you, there is also a prize pool of $3000!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• Sign-ups open | 15 September 5pm
• Sign-ups close | 17 September 5pm
• Preliminary round | 29 September
Quarters | 02 October
Semi finals | 05 October
• Finals | 08 October

REGISTRATION WILL BE BASED ON A BALLOT SYSTEM:

There are 96 places (48 pairs), the first 24 pairs will be on a first-come, first-served basis and the remaining 24 pairs will be selected at random. You can sign up as a team, or individually - we’ll do our best to pair you up 👥

There will be a 24 hour window after problem release where we will be accepting withdrawals. We DO NOT accept withdrawals after this period to maintain competitive integrity.

⚖️ We invite all Part I students who are new to mooting to attend the University of Auckland Mooting Society Quick Moot!

This event will be a low-stress and non-competitive introduction to mooting for those who have never mooted before. ⚖️

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The Quick Moot will be a condensed version of a typical moot where our coaches will help you develop your arguments and skills as you go!

You will be provided with all the information and instructions on the night - NO PREPARATION IS NECESSARY, JUST SIMPLY SHOW UP!

The Quick Moot will be held on Thursday the 14th of September from 6-7:30PM (with food provided).

You can sign up as a pair or an individual and we will randomly pair you up.

Last week we had our Simpson Grierson Inter-university Social Issues Moot Finals!

This moot brought together top mooters from the University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology and the University of Waikato.

Congratulations to our winners, Sofia Olan and Tane Neilson Sanchez, and runners-up Sebastien Fraser and Mohinder Suri. You should be immensely proud! 🏆

A special congratulations to Tane who was also named Best Speaker.

A big thank you to incredible finals judges - Jo-Anne Knight, Gerald Lanning, and Justice Mount for judging the final and sharing their time and expertise.

We’re also grateful to Simpson Grierson for providing the problem question, Evelyn Zhou and Maxwell Houston for being the registrars.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 🏆

Saskia Wigman and Nicolas Powell have won the Bell Gully Open Mooting Competition at the NZLSA Conference in Wellington, with Saskia also taking out Best Speaker.

The final was held in the Supreme Court before Kós and La Hood JJ and Kirsty Dobbs of Bell Gully.

Huge thanks to the barristers, legal professionals and professors who offered their time to judge practice moots.

This moot provides first year Part II students with the opportunity to engage with a challenging legal issue and to develop their oral advocacy skills.

If you are – The Simpson Grierson Inter-university Social Issues Moot is HERE!

This moot brings together top mooters from the University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology and the University of Waikato

*open to Part II.5+ students or Part II students taking all five papers*

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Sign-ups open | 31 July | 6pm
Sign-ups close | 02 August | 6pm
Preliminary round | 13th August | 6pm
Semi finals | 19 August | 6pm
Finals | 25 August | 6pm

The Auckland region preliminary round will be held between the University of Auckland and AUT. The first 8 sign-ups from each university will be accepted on a first-in, first-served basis. The remaining 16 spots will be allocated via a random ballot. This is a pair progression moot – teams must progress through the rounds together. Each pair must be made up of students from the same university. Prize pool total of $1,200

There will be a 24 hour window after problem release where we will be accepting withdrawals. We DO NOT accept withdrawals after this period to maintain competitive integrity.
