Valedictorian - Frances Horomia Throughout her journey as a Level 5 Whānau Ora learner, Frances demonstrated herself to be a conscientious and self-directed student, approaching her learning with intention and integrity. Her ability to analyse complex whānau situations, apply theory to real-world contexts, and uphold ethical practice reflects strong critical thinking and mature judgement. These qualities became especially evident during times of disruption — when power outages, limited Wi‑Fi connectivity, and looming weather events challenged the stability of everyday life. Yet, these circumstances did not deter her. Instead, Frances adapted, problem-solved, and remained focused on her objective to continue and complete her diploma, demonstrating resilience that mirrors the realities many whānau experience daily. Frances reminds us that achievement within the Level 5 Diploma in Whānau Ora is not defined solely by assessments passed, but by the ability to remain steadfast, reflective, and values-led, even when conditions are challenging. Her journey reflects resilience, critical consciousness, and an unwavering commitment to kaupapa and community.
This commitment reflects the uara we uphold at WaiTech : Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Rangatiratanga, and Pūkengatanga — values Frances does not simply demonstrate, but lives.
