🌴 Tongan Language Week at Howick KIDS - Day 3 ❤️

Today, our Tongan kaiako helped the children revisit and practise Tongan numbers and songs. The children have also been learning how to say “hello” – Mālō e lelei – in the Tongan language and are becoming familiar with some simple Tongan words and phrases.

It has been wonderful to see the children showing curiosity, enthusiasm, and growing confidence as they learn more about the Tongan language and culture. Through songs, conversations, and fun learning experiences, the children are developing an appreciation for the rich culture of Tonga. 🌺

Over the next few days, our Tongan Language Week celebrations will continue! We will explore Tongan food, traditional art and crafts, language, songs, and culture through a range of exciting and hands-on activities. We look forward to learning, creating, and celebrating together with our tamariki! 🤍

Kia ora whānau,

Here is a glimpse of our cooking experience today!

12/08/2026

Kia ora whānau,

As it was wet outside today, we were unable to take our usual walk to the library. Instead, we made the most of our time indoors by enjoying a fun and meaningful cooking experience together. We decided to prepare some delicious scones for afternoon tea.

All four children were excited and eager to take part. After carefully washing their hands, the children gathered around the table and worked alongside the teachers to measure and prepare the ingredients. They enjoyed mixing the ingredients together, kneading and shaping the dough, and helping to roll it out before cutting and placing the scones onto the baking tray.

It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that encouraged the children to develop their fine motor skills, confidence and independence. They also practiced important social skills such as cooperation, sharing, taking turns and working together as a group.

The children were very proud of their efforts and enjoyed watching their scones being baked. It was lovely to see their excitement as they created something together and then enjoyed their delicious baking for afternoon tea.

Scarf dancing fun 💃🕺

Today at Howick Kids, our tamariki had so much fun exploring music and movement with colorful scarves. As the music played, they excitedly held their scarves and danced along, moving them up and down, fast and slow, side to side, and around in circles, following the rhythm and tempo of the music.

It was wonderful to see our tamariki expressing themselves through movements, creating their own actions and enjoying the freedom to move their bodies in different ways. They listened carefully to the music and responded to the changing pace while developing their coordination, balance and body awareness.

There were lots of smiles, laughter, and joyful moments as our tamariki danced together and enjoyed this engaging experience. ❤️💚💛
